Not sure if it would work, but you can try installing it in the 8105, then format it and load system software as if it was a new HDD.

Regarding Linux have you tried pasting the error from the terminal into google?

yes , this error "failed to probe the device udisks-error-quark 0 on sdb" also tried gparted it cannot create partition table neither dd utility is working, It looks like we cannot use canon hdd on any other device, even cannot format it.

Have you tried the following to see the partitions, it should look something like the following (a raspberry pi)

            sudo fdisk -l
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
            /dev/mmcblk0p1 8192 532479 524288 256M c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
            /dev/mmcblk0p2 532480 62333951 61801472 29.5G 83 Linux

Or you could just put the hard drive in the other copier and see if it works.

I recently found out it is not possible to format a newer Canon HDD in a USB caddy etc due to the HDD encryption Canon uses.

Yes drive not detected here but it's visible in disks utility

So drive is dead now? Or they change hdd firmware, I also tried writing all zeroes using dd and it worked but again cannot alter the partition table

The drive can only be used in a canon copier, otherwise it's trash
