    Canon IRA 6555 Dept. ID

i must be missing something. I have 2 6555's and a 6255 in a school teachers room. They want to use ID's to track paper usage. The 6255 was easy. I turned on Dept. ID in user mode, entered the ID numbers and was done. The 6555 went just as smoothly but even with Dept ID turned on machine still defaults to copy screen with no need to log in with Dept ID or pin. Done a lot of research and it looks like I have to do it through a browser which I find unusual. They only use the machines to make copies for in class use. Does anybody see what I may be missing? Do I have to put the machines on the network to do this? I must be getting old.

you have to go via rui then bottom left login to console and switch the service from user id to dept id and then restart machine(s) - this is for ALL newer models after 52xx

The application to implement user authentication is called the "Login Service." The machine is set to use "User Authentication (personal authentication management)" for the login service by default. If you want to use "DepartmentID Authentication," change the login service in the SMS.

      1

Log in to the Remote UI.
      2

Click [Service Management Service] on the portal page.
      3

Click [System Application Management] [Start] in [SMS Installer Service (Password Authentication)].
      The status becomes [Started].
      4

Click [Enhanced System Application Management] [Switch] in [DepartmentID Authentication].
The status becomes [Start after Restart].
      5

      Restart the machine.
The machine restarts and the changed settings are reflected.
