canon ipf840 showing hardware error 03130031-4027

Hello comrades i have a client who purchased the above machine and tried to install the printer himself, after all the installation the machine gave the said error.
On reaching the scene the machine still gives same error but couldnt do much, where could be the problem.
The machine tries to initialize but after the error pops up.Tried to check the carriage for possible obstacles but with no success any help highly welcome.

I would suspect that the carriage is not in the home position over the purge unit, and cannot get to the home position. The lift drive unit engages only when the carriage is in the home position.

IF ... the carriage is not in the home position the heads are probably NOT capped, and may have been that way a long time. The heads may be a casualty. First thing though is to remove the covers and find out why the carriage isn't moving correctly. It could conceivably be as simple as a paper jam. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
