laser class 510 scan problem

I do not do a lot of Cannons but got ask to look at this for a customer. If scanning through the document feeder, page comes out blank. Works good off the glass. Scanner seems to be going to correct position. Is this something simple I missed. I also ran into an different modle cannon that prints blank from the glass, and if you use the document feeder, you get 2 long square black strips down the page. Is stuff like this common with Canon?

You need to replace the ribbon cable Part# HH2-3222-000. It is common on those machines, just did one last week.

How many different models would that part number fit. Is this common for all laser class with slit glass scanning?

So far I have only had the problem with the 510
