[Misc] How to calibrate fixing assembly pressure for Canon IR3235?

    Screenshot_63.jpg

Any idea how to perfectly set the ideal pressure for the fixing assembly? I have IR3235 that need some calibration, have applied new grease onto the heating unit and the sleeve is rolling ok, but the pressure screw was messed with.

Not sure about this model, but back in the day when you could adjust fixing pressure by setting nipp width. This is what I would do:

I would make up a solid 100% black original with 1" lead and trail voids. Then print that image, and emergency stop the process with the paper 1/2 way through the fuser. Count to 10, then pull out the paper in a continuous motion. When you look at the piece of paper you will see a glossy band, where the paper sat when you stopped it. Measure the width of that band, at the front and at the back of the machine.

Typically on machines <30cpm nip width should be 5.5mm. Faster machines have higher nipp width, at 60cpm it's typically 7.0mm. If the width of the band is less, increase pressure. If the width more, decrease pressure.

If you've got another functional machine, you could take the measurement to discover the reference value. Maybe somebody current on this Canon can come up with a nipp width number? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I swear this is some lost knowledge, thank you for the direction

      EDIT:
NIP width should be 7.6mm - 10.6mm for this model as per service manual.

Start at the 7.6mm. if you notice problems with fusing a specific stock you might want to increase it slightly.

The higher the nipp value, the more the paper will curl, and the shorter the fuser component life. =^..^=

Perfect, thanks for sharing your experience. Taking this fuser unit out is a chore.

I just take off the outer delivery guide, the connector cover and the 4 screws holding the fuser in. I don't swing the door out.
