Canon Image Prograf 670 Print Head Error

    Hi Guys,
Absolutely brand new here, IT guy looking to fix a printer.

I have a Canon Image Prograf 670 that my test print is showing serious degradation on the Yellow part of the print head.

To this end I have purchased a couple of print heads, granted I have brought this from online and not sure of the legitimacy of the print heads.

This is the second print head I have tried in the machine and both times I get a Print Head Error please change print head and if I put the old print head back in it goes away.

Now I have done some googling and I have seen another post which says it could be the cap absorbers, now i replaced these not so long ago (< 2 months) to try and clean the head to no avail.

I am stumped now as I am not sure whether to buy a print head from a reputable source and try again or whether the problem stems from the cap absorbers / purge unit.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated

    Thanks.

What is the error code displayed ?

The printhead(s) you purchased online were they brand new & sealed in the airtight foil ?

You could try cleaning your old head with alcohol etc i've had some success doing this.

Thanks for the reply, its appreciated.

No Error Code, just Print Head Error: Replace Print Head.

I have tried cleaning the old head and more ink comes through but it wont unblock completely.

The new head came in a foil package that was unopened however the head inside was wrapped in bubble wrap and did not have the orange casings to be removed that I have seen on online.

I am tempted to think they aren't legitimate but they should of worked and maybe my printer cant pull ink through them because my purge unit is on the way out?

      Does this help?

      Thanks again

Hi there, I would say change the purge unit as a whole - just changing the cap absorbers is not enough as I'm sure you've had the printer for 3+ years! The mechanism gets tired and can no longer pull the ink well enough. Also change the Print head at the same time but use a reputable Canon approved source as you don't want to spend that amount of money and have a problem!
Lastly, make sure your firmware is up to date

        Good luck

Thank you, so I think it was partly the purge unit as ink levels weren't changing. I've swapped out and now it definitely pulls ink as it used all my ink doing a clean. However when filling up with ink it fails with a hardware error 03130031-2f72.

I think this is due to the old print head being blocked though and replacing this might fix it?

I doubt that it is related to the print head. This is a priming issue at the right tank unit - just make sure you connected everything correctly after replacing the purge unit. If it still appears then I would cut my losses as you will then need to replace either the Ink supply Unit R or the Main board

Could this be none OEM ink causing this?
