A customer is asking if Canon has any information regarding any potential health/safety concerns when sitting next to a copier. Anybody know of anything?
I had a machine in the prison way back. The user was in a small office with a Sharp B&W 20cpm MFP (sorry, don't remember the model). This enduser had read on the internet somewhere that copier release ozone. She used this excuse for sick days, medical visits, and paid time off. The warden sat down with me and I explained:
Everything electrical releases ozone, especially copiers that use corona wires. In most cases the amount is hardly measurable. If it was a print shop with four console copiers in a small room with poor circulation you might have concerns. One small 20cpm machine that runs occasionally, not much. Some people are particularly sensitive to ozone. Most are not. I did some research on this topic in preparation.
The warden said: "I know how to handle this." We walked down to the employees office. The warden said: "You're absolutely right. It's unsafe for the machine to be in here with you. We're removing it." and we started dismantling the machine.
The employee said: " Hey! I need this machine!" and proceeded to tell us why. "No. It's too unsafe." The employee insisted that the machine stay. Interestingly, the medical visits and paid time off requests stopped. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
