    Canon IR5000 Scanner Issues

I have client with 2 IR 5000s which have been working well for over a year. Both machines would copy, print and scan without any issues.
Last week one of the scanners started throwing incomplete images, broken images, and images with previously scanned text or images randomly inserted into new scans.(Pictures available on request) This doesn't happen every time. It could scan two pages and then glitch the next two. Plain text seems to scan better than text and images.
According to technicians at HyTec Board Repair, the scanner resolution board is most likely the problem however when I went to remove the board from the machine, it's not there.
According to Canon, the riser board and resolution board must be present in the single PCI slot on the main board of machine in order to scan. It is not present on either machine.
If anyone has any recommendations I'm open to all suggestions because at this point I'm confused.

    Thanks in advance

    Can you attach any samples.
Does it happen when your copying or printing.
The resolution board is a component for the universal send feature.
The riser board is for networking (printing)
Your using the the scanning feature that comes with the IR5000 standard.
Do you put the scanner online in order to scan?
The send feature works a little differently, you actually push scan to file folder, email account.

As for the distorted images i would like to know if its just a scanning issue or if it happens while your printing or copying.

No the issue does not occur on ANY function except scanning.
Yes, the scanner IS put online when scanning...

If you did not know. When you post there is a paper clip icon at the top of the message box, this where you can attach files.

Have tried reinstalling the network scangear tool driver, also what are you using, application wise? Have you tried changing the dpi resolution in the preview window. It sure looks like data processing transfering issue.

Have not tried reinstalling based on information provided by HyTec. Will go back and try that later today or tomorrow AM.

                missing info on scan

one copier is fine while the other has this scan issue? are they on the same network/server? has to be a driver issue suggest you try screwtape's advice and ck your setup . you could also try swapping your scanner hardware with working box. good luck j

I can't remember if 5000s have smart scan...if so make sure it is turned off. I know 600s and above have it.

Smart Scan is a function of Universal Send, and the issue is with TWAIN Scan on th iR5000.

The MFP would need to be an iR5000i to have Universal Send.

Th iR5000 family came out about 5 years or so before Smart Scan was available.

                      was working

As both your boxes were flying would be interesting to know if client has recently upgraded server/network software. if one is still going are they both running the same version of firmware??? has got to be what "screwtape suggested " in the beginning. go back and ck the basics then hdware. good hunting j

To KenB....SmartScan is not a part of Universal Send....IR600 has it...no Universal Send. It is in additional functions in User Mode...IR600 has is it but IR550 doesn't...there is an additional memory pcb that connects to the IP pcb on the 600.But i checked and not on 5000

                          Problem Solved!

It would seem that it was indeed the software. Tested the scan from the same IR5000 to a completely different computer on the same network and it worked without incident.
Re-installed NSG 2.2 and everything works great.
All the assistance is much appreciated.
