canon ir 55/6570 shows jam in feeder

the machines are lease returns. now i have 4 doing the same thing

it goes to make a copy and shows a jam that won't reset until the machine is turned off and turned on again then it does the same thing if you try to run something on the feeder. any help deeply apprciated

Do a sensor init in service mode under feeder, function sensor init, press ok and reboot.

are you getting a 0094 jam code

look at the last jam code for the feeder that indicates a sensor. check that sensor arm to see if it is dislodged. many times customers will dislodge or break adf sensor arms. This is one possible senario that could cause above symtoms.

Sounds like maybe someone cleared the RCON PCB's on those machines. Go into service level 2>copier>option>body>sens-cnf and make sure it is set to 1 for north america. When RCON is cleared, this setting gets set to it's default of 0. The doc feed will do just as you described and doing a sens-int wont help until the default is changed as I described.

Not necessarily, I've had this kind of problem a number of times, on 5570/6570/5055/5075. Most of the time SEN-CNF is set to 1. When its set to 0, you can automatically notice that the original paper size detection sensors under the copy glass reads 11x17. I still agree with you that SEN-CNF can cause some issues, But I have to disagree with you that initializing the sensors won't help first. There are times when the sensors do not reset causing false jams. I have a great number of these units out in the field and most of the times I do a sens-init to resolve the problem.

I had this on a ir5070 that the customer moved the machine on his own and banged it up, I did the adf sensor rest three times and would not reset, I went through each sensor by hand and checked continuity in each wire, I checked the harness and socket for broken wires and continuity.

I never found the solution to this problem. Would love to hear your solution

There's times where you must initialize then reboot.
You must also shut down the machine the proper way by holding the on/off switch for 3 secs.

Clear the Rcon then go into service mode under FEEDER and set the feeder up(program width guide positions,sensor initialization,white levels,etc).....look in the manual for "after clearing Rcon". If the main controller was cleared you have to set SENS-CONFIG to 1 ..I believe...not near a manual

Have seen this a # of times with "lease return" bxs I'm with screwtape and canuck on this one. start over and all should b well!!!

When you clear anything, its best to print out a P- Print from sevice mode first!

If you clear R-CON your document detection sensors will be set back to default 0 as well.

To set it to read inch type, go into service mode,
LVL2>Copier>Option>Body>SENS-CNF-1

Then reboot the machine. If its still false jamming, as recommended by others, check sensor, cut wire ties...
