    Ir2270/2870 read contoler

I've got two IR2270's and an IR2870 not auto detecting A4 on the copyboard.

A3 is detected. A4R is detected as A3. I've tried clearing the R-CON in service mode along with MMI and DC-CON just to be sure. I've checked the sensors are ok. Their I/O values don't change. But I have proven them working in another machine.

I've had some success with the 2870 by changing the R-CON board but this an expencive option. I need to find out what is going wrong with the board and correct it.

In another job I fixed money handling machines. Their memories regually got corrupted. But I could reprogam them in their service mode.

Does anyone know of a similar feature in Canon copiers? That would let me re-programe the copier to properly detect A4?

After clearing all these pcbs did you reinput the values?
Did you even print out a P-print before clearing these pcbs?

You can try Entering service mode level 2/copier/body and set SENS-CNF to '1'.

When you clear pcbs values are then out of specs.

as screwtape said you do need to set up the reader again - however workaround is to set copyboard to a4 only and let the df do all the work

        Yes I took a P-PRINT. I have re-entered values.

Not to sound too rude. But if the board is corrupt then won't the p-print also be flawed?

I fixed the ir2870 by replacing the R-CON board with one from a derelict machine that did work. The fault is without a doubt on that board.

My boss is quite happy to let the doc feeder do the work and send the copier out with the fault.

But if there is a fix... I want to find it. Then my quality standards don't have to suffer.

The P-Print merely states what the settings were the last time they were set, the data can become corrupt without changing the value posted on the list.

This general advice is given freely to all:

At each machine you have, store a P-Print or Label print, Network Settings report, and all Fax/Send report data including address book listings somewhere on/in that copier.

I can't recall how many times I have come up to a copier that was stricken unuseable that required a clear operation to get it back on its feet. Depending on which type clear you perform, you can lose all kinds of settings, or if your hard drive craps out, same issue. I urge you to print these out an all machines you encounter, whether you are the primary service tech or not, to protect your self in the future. This is best accomplished when setting up the copier new.
