    Mis-aligned colors canon c 5185

PLEASE HELP!!! I HAVE A CUSTOMER DOWN. KONICA TECH HERE WORKING ON THE DREADED CANON!!! JUST KIDDING.
CUSTOMER ASK US TO CHANGE IU'S AND CLEAN MACHINE. THERE WAS MAGENTA. AND BLACK BANDING ON THE COPIES. I CHANGED THE BLACK AND MAGENTA IU'S AND CLEANED OUT THE CHAMBERS THEY ARE IN,COPIES LOOKED GREAT AT FIRST THEN A YELLOW BAND STARTED SHOWING ON SOME OF THE COPIES. SO I CHANGED THE YELLOW IU AND WHILE I WAS CHANGEING IT I SAW THE SMALL GLASS ABOVE THE DRUM. IN THE KONICA, CLEANING THAT HELPS CQ SO I PROCEEDED TO CLEAN ALL THOSE ABOVE THE DRUMS ALSO. NOW I HAVE A RAINBOW EFFECT ON THE COLORS THEY ARE MIS- ALIGNED AND PICTURES ARE OUT OF FOCUS. PUT OLD YELLOW DRUM BACK IN MACHINE, BUT STILL HAVE SAME PROBLEM WHY ARE THE COLORS NOT ALIGNING? SURELY SOMEONE OUT THERE IN CANON LAND CAN HELP ME. WHAT DO I DO??? I NEED HELP!

    just a guess here...

I have not had to work on the lasers on this beasty, or it's older cousin, the 3200, but if I am taking a guess here it would be that the slit glass you were cleaning with the drums out was attached directly to the laser units for each drum, and you may have moved them out of their normal position. Removing and reinstalling the lasers may get them seated correctly once more.

Further education may be forthcoming from the rest of the gang here...

dont worry! first of all,you must replace cleaning blade unit of the transfer belt.
second, pull out the transfer belt unit, then remove the belt, clean the rollers, reassemble the unit.

the rainbow affect appears because the belt is not clean.

if you haven't removed the laser unit, clear the DC-con and mn-con.

Take the lasers out (4), cock them back to home position.
Get a manual on how to do this, or let someone who knows more about canon models take over. Unless you want to open up your horizions and take a shot at it, good luck. What's the worse that can happen, you can just mess it up more.

            Good luck.

STILL WORKING ON THIS BEAST. I SERVICED AND REPLACE THE TRANSFER BELT UNIT DID NOT REPLACE THE BELT ITSELF. STILL HAVE RAINBOWS. DO I NEED TO REPLACE THE UNIT ITSELF (FM25365-000) ?
AND NOW IT IS JAMMING UNDER THE BELT. PASSED ABOUT 50 COPIES NOW IT JAMS EVERYTIME. I AM REALLY OVER THIS MACHINE. HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP.

Not sure what you mean by rainbows???? These are typical with primaries with wire but with new drums installed should not have what I call rainbows. Did you ever try a DCON CLR?? copier>func>clr>dcon>ok>cycle pwr. Birth cert should be inside door paper instructions. Is registration off op to non-op or lead to trail?? If off lead to trail, remove cleaning blade and see if it's better..belt may be slipping. Op to non-op is laser problem. Home position lasers.

                    THANKS

Thanks for all your help guys. Just finished this job. The guy wanted to order his own parts and have them shipped sloooooooow boat! Replaced the transfer belt unit and cleaning unit. That did the trick. The only problem now is the copies are a little pink when you are coping, like a white car looks a little to pink, but when you print the same picture they look great. All the drums are new. The customer mostly prints, so it is no big deal to them but i would like to know whats going on if anyone knows. Thanks again.

After fitting the new drums did you run an Auto Gradation Adjustment?
Should be right there on the bottom of the main LCD but if not it's in:
                      ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS/ADJUSTMENT-CLEANING/AUTOGRADATION ADJUSTMENT.
And you'll want to run a FULL ADJUST when prompted.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen and let us know how you get on.

A lot of customers seem to forget that this is part of a daily routine that they should perform. All color equipment needs to have this done a least once a day. And ANY time there is a question as to color quality issues,,, drive home the need to perform this CUSTOMER function,,, before placing a call for service.

I recently cleaned out our c5185, cleaned meaning blew it out with an air compressor, and now I am having these same color alignment problems. I am not a tech and really don't know much about the copier, so can someone tell me what I need to do to fix this?

The drums are fairly new and the belt was just replaced a few months ago. Thanks for the help.

that is the worst thing you could have done to this printer/ sensors/mirrors/laser/belts/ drive rollers probably now full of stray toner/ the 5185 needs a trained tech to determine issues_the causes of them and repair the problem
                              .

sorry but there is not enough space and time here to explain and help an end user with this model.
