If I understand your issue, I believe you are refering to Universal Send. I am not certain, but that may be a license that has to be installed. If you replaced a hard drive, then the license would need to be re-installed. All the licenses for the devices are stored on the hard drive.

mrfixit: just to know, how does the licensing system work in canon. Like do we send the machine serial number to canon and request the license or is there a universal file when when installed via SST activates that function like in PS/PCL. Is it the same with MEAP utilities
a machine is only as good as your tech : source:screwtape ; the scary one

When you purchase a print kit, or universal send or any other item from Canon, you get a box which contains the necessary parts, if any that need to be installed prior to licensing, and a certificate that has a 16 digit key on it. Canon has a site that only deals with license issuing. It is listed on the bottom of that certificate. The 16 digit key as well as the machine serial number are entered into the online form, and verification takes place. You have a chance to view all the particulars before commiting to the license. When the license is applied for, it provides the license number in the form of a longer set of all numeric characters. This license is then entered into the copier thru Additional Functions>System Manager>License Registration. Turn copier off/on, then the functionality of the added service is now ready to go.

Did you have universal send before hard drive change/format? If so, the original license should still be in your posession, enter the numbers from that certificate. If you don't have the certificate onhand, you will have to contact Canon directly, with your serial number for the copier. If there was software registered to the serial, Canon should be able to help you with the certification.

It is beyond my help at this point. There is no sticker, there is a certificate originally presented with the option. Call the previous owner, call Canon, that is the only thing to do at this point...

I don't know in which country you live, so I have no hope of providing you contact information. Contact a Canon certified company in your part of the world, and they can help with the universal send licensing process. You cannot use any space left over on the hard drive after the partitions are created. This has already been stated elsewhere. Canon designed the partitioning to suit their needs. It is not adjustable.

No iam asking the machine has comes with a 20GB HDD and u can use 20GB space, But in my current HDD the usage Memory was 8GB. if i change the HDD to HTS541640J9AT00 can i use the 20GB space. Because the extra space is very much useful to me.

The answer is the same,,, NO.

If you put an 80g drive in it,,, you could still only get access to the normal amount of space allocated by Canons partioning software. You cannot get access to the rest of the hard drive space.

mr.fixit, how do we know that there is universal kit on our machine, where to look at? and what its look like?

I have ir 8500 used machine that came with universal send function. And one days the HD broken, then the dealer where I bought just replaced it with image HD from another 8500 machine. And it is work. Is there no need to input license management on ir8500 universal send?

And If it was works on 8500, can also it works on ir5570? because I just got ir5570 but without universal send function.

                          thx

If I may jump in there, MrFixit,

You can't move Universal Send from an iR8500 to a 5570. The Universal Send is hardware (a board and a different control panel) and firmware on an 8500, and a license on a 5570.

You can move a license from another 70 series machine, though, but it isn't easy. You MUST be an authorized Canon dealer, with access to eSupport. You then call Canon with the appropriate info, and they will get you a new key. I don't know if they charge for this. It used to be free, but that was a long time ago.
