    Canon iR5020 SMB problem

Hello - I am trying to setup a Canon iR5020 to do a scan to a share on our win2003 server. I have given the user permissions to it and entered in the path via using the server's ip address. I cannot browse via SMB and when I do a scan to share I get an error of #801. Can anyone offer suggestions on what I might be overlooking? Thanks

Also I have tested the share logged into that person from a workstation and add/deleted a file into the share location.

There is a problem with authentication on this model with server 2003. I ran into this in the field once. There is a Canon bulletin with a long list of security settings on server 2003 that need to be disabled or shut off. All I remember was after I handed the bulletin to the IT guy, he started laughing and saying "are you kidding? because there is no way that is going to happen!" And what do you know, neither was scanning the way the customer wanted. We ended up finding a work around, but it wasn't pretty. Good luck! The machine is outdated and all the manufacturers have come such a long way with scanning! If scanning is that important, you should consider getting a newer model machine!

        We found 3 ways:

        1. Create a global shared file on the server with permissions to everyone. IT hates this one

        2. Use the userid and password for a "local" user (not domain, the local system) - IT will crap, but it works because it avoids the Domain security.

        3. Get IT to create a user called scanner(?) password "scans" - never expires - admin rights; then create a file address (in addressbook) using that userid/password. Should only need to be entered one time - so IT does not need to give the password to anyone. IMO the least evil.

costd - We done option 3. We have also used one Canon KB Article from their help desk. Windows Security Policy Settings and Universal Send (SMB) and so far have had no luck.

Check that DNS ip's are in the copier. It will need the DNS server ip addresses added in order to see any recources (shared folders) on their network.

Currently the jobs are stuck in a "Sending" status. None appear on the share

Open network connections advanced>optional networking components and add peer-to-peer (SMB) on the workstation with the shared folder.
ir5020 is older and might need the true SMB running to see anything on that workstation. I remember needing to add the peer-to-peer to get those darn axis print servers to print via SMB.

This shared folder is on a Windows Server 2003 box. The user has full rights on the folder, and I can add a file to the folder on the server signed into a workstation as that user.

The workstation you are using is using TCP/IP protocol and the DNS server to see that folder.
The ir5020 needs SMB(NetBIOS) protocol to see that folder. You can try to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP by right clicking LAN>properties>tcp/ip>properties>advanced>wins>enable NetBIOS over TCP/ip. But I havn't had much luck with the NetBIOS over TCP/IP and had to add the true peer-to-peer under optional networking components.
I think Kapten had a good suggestion. Enable FTP server on thier win2003 server so the ir5020 can use FTP to hit that folder.
