    IR8500 Opinions wanted

    Hi,

I am considering an IR 8500. It was a walk up printer in a shop nearby and has 4.5 million clicks with an almost new drum.

It's main purpose would be as a backup to my 105 and for doing long runs of saddle stitched books (which my 105 can't do).

I'm estimating I would be running 200K clicks through it each month, which is half the manufacturer's duty cycle.

Would this be worth it for under $1,000 or am I going to be seeing the tech quite frequently based on the meter count and where the machine was?

I would say go for it. 4.5 million clicks isn't all that much on an 8500. I actually prefer the 85 over the 105 for reliability.

I got some out ther that got 10 million and still kicking ass.
Your never gonna get away from service. But a machine is only as good as your tech. Try to get it as cheap as possible. Good machine.

With 4.5 mill on it, it could be a basket case if it wasn't well taken care of. It could cost you a boatload of cash to get it up to good running condition. If you can, you might want to have your 105 tech. take a good look at it before you buy it.
