Canon Laser Class 9000s wont feed

Hello, First post here, ex auto tech, so please bear with me. We have a Canon Laser Class 9000s fax - copier that will not take paper suddenly, it clicks, turns etc....but won't auto-feed through the fax. I checked and cleaned all the rubber wheels etc, made sure nothing was physically broken, took the covers off top and bottom and checked the sensors on the top section for free movement etc, still will not feed. Like I said I have basic knowledge of office machines, but consider me a "newbie" please. I cannot find anything broken, the machine powers up no problem and no codes are displayed. I don't know what else to say other that if i force the paper a little bit it works sometimes, but mostly that won't even work.

    Thanks in advance, Rich

I'm going to make a guess here that the problem is with the document feeder, not the print engine (both feed paper).

The most common problem of no feed (not just an intermittent jam or two because of worn rubber) is a failing one-way bearing in the feed roller drive. This is located on the lower side of the document feeder. Remove the cover on the lower half, and observe that the largest roller has a gear 18T with one-way bearing further down the shaft. It just snaps in.

Remove the gear 18T and rinse out the bearing with alcohol, then let it dry. Also clean the shaft. When assembling add just a single drop of light oil (like 3-in-1 or sewing machine oil) inside the bearing. Also make sure it gets installed with the gear in the same direction.

A one-way bearing or one-way clutch allows the shaft to turn free in one direction and grab in the other. When they get dirty or dry they'll turn free in both directions, which means no drive to the separation roller.

If you need a replacement the part # is: HS5-0070-000

Now if my basic premise is incorrect, I need some more detail. What part of the machine? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Dear Blackcat4866,

I believe this fixed the problem. I took the one-way clutch off and messed with it, there are actually 2 of them in the lower unit. Anyway, it is working now. You are correct, the bearing was freewheeling too far before grabbing the shaft. Just by me messing with it, and putting it back together, it is working now. I will completely disassemble the parts and clean with alcohol and lightly lubricate as you suggested.

      Thanks much, Rich aka Fordace

Come on over to www.lincolnsonline.com if you have a Lincoln auto problem, I am a mod there and would be glad to assist........

What's a 'mod' (like modeller?)? We technicians aren't rich enough for Lincolns, but I've had quite a few Fords. When I start seeing 40mpg again I'll be stopping in at the dealership. Until then I'm keeping my 1993 Festiva, and still getting 40mpg at 150K miles.

A Lincoln? Oh yeah, I drive a car that Abraham Lincoln once used. When I say it has horse power, man does it really have horses! My car is so old when I parked at a scrap metal yard who was one of our customers, I made sure that I parked it out of site. It would have been an honest mistake and couldn't have been that mad at them!
