Error E221 occurs after the copier cycles but before a copy is made.

An error E221 pertains to the Scan lamp circuit. If an E221 occurs before you try to make a copy the error could be related to a problem with the Blanking Shutter Solenoid (SL4). Check the signal for the Solenoid at J307 pin 4 on the DC controller. Ensure that the wires are not damaged.

After checking that the Lamp Regulator and DC Controller are working properly, check that the Thermal Fuse (FU1) is working properly.
The Thermal Fuse part number is FH7-7235-000

      E221

This is a canon Np 2020 with a different name. I was unable to locate the code( I don't have much time this morning) but I believe it is a lamp code. All the E200 codes are optical.
Run your search on NP 2020's. They are the same machine with a different door. They changed the name several years ago to match the model number scheme of the newer Np models at the time. I hope this helped. Don
Upon reviewing another response you recieved, I remember having a couple machine blanking assemblies load up with dirt(dust bunnies) Cheat the front door, and watch the blanking lanps as the machine goes into initial rotation. You will probably see the dirt in the assembly when the LED's come on if that is the problem. The dirt can also bind the mechanism that drives the shutter if I remember correctly. It's been a while.
To fix this: Remove the front door, then the inner covers(grey ones) Right in front of the slit gllass on the front of the frame you will find 2 screws that will drop the blanking assy. Clean it up and put it back in. It should work fine. I found this in a couple of warehouse offices (very dusty)over the years. Good Luck

Yes, I'm still trying to keep my NP 6221 copier alive. It seems that every 2 or 3 years something new goes wrong.

I just got the E221 code and have decided the exposure lamp is defective. There is no resistance when I hook up an OHM meter to each end of the lamp. I read somewhere that this indicates the lamp is bad. This seems to make sense as there should be a circuit through the lamp if the filament was continious.

Now my delimma is finding a replacement lamp. I'm fairly certain the Lamp number is FH7-3113-000. I can find that number associated with the NP 2020 machine, but not the NP 6221. I've read they are the same machine, so I'm assumming it is the correct part.

Can someone provide a suggestion on a reliable parts suppplier?

        Thanks.

        Bill

Another common problem is a cracked lamp cable, but the point is moot. You won't be able to get any parts for this machine. Let it go. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
