    IR2200 adf problems

Ok, I am going to be honest, I don't know a whole lot about the adf's on the canon copiers and I have a major issue with an Image Runner. At one point it was making a load grinding noise when you would close the lid of the copier, now it just does not recognize the paper being in the tray, so i can't use it at all. The orginial problem was that it kept reading a jam in the adf even though it was feeding the paper through it, now it won't do anything, please help. Any help and insight you can give would be most appreciated.

The loud grinding noise is from the front gears. If you remove the DF front cover (3 screws) and run the feeder cleaner in additional options you will hear it. As you look at the gears, you will see 2 green ones. The large one with the clip is too loose. If you push it slightly as it rotates, the noise stops. Way I fix it -use a thin washer between the gear and the clip. If I do not have a washer, I bend the clip a tad (puts a little more pressure on).

Still passing paper with a jam code is new to me – but only issues (other than connectors and/or dirty sensors) we have had is the squeak (pads worn), the grinding (loose gear mesh), and 1clutch.

On another type of similar DF I found one of the copper springs mangled and it was causing “weirdness”.

Thanks, I will take a look at that and let you know. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I am really busy today.

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I fixed the problem. What costd said gave me the idea to look at the gears and they were not lining up anymore, so I adjusted the screw that allowed me to move one of the gears and now the adf is working perfect. Thank you

To add to what costd told you, I lubricate the green gears, plastic rotating on plastic can go on only so long without lubrication. That has been my major source of noise on these doc feeders.

Ok, thank you for that word of advice also. I will grease those gears. I have to get this copier to last us as long as I can.
