    Canon IR-210

    Greeting's,
Have a IR-210 that has intermittent scanner shutter on reverse mode only. Sometimes the scanner will stop half way back to home position while shuttering. Shows no error codes. Machine has 80K on it and is located in a law office. So far replaced the scanner motor and belt along with the polygon board. Any and all help much appreciated.

How about lubing the scanner rails,,, that machine is very old, even though the clicks are low, Clean them off first, as whatever used to be there as lube has probably turned to varnish by now...

Also check the allen screws on the scanner drive shaft at the far right of the optics. I have seen these screws loosen over time. It causes blurred images and scanner shuttering.

I assume you are referring to the front pulley that has the plastic shroud over it?? I have seen them eat up that plastic cover. I forgot about that,, that is a good point!

I will be heading back to the account soon and will check the shaft screws. Rails have already been cleaned and relubed. Thanks for the info.

The NP-6030s used to do that too. The iR210 is a close relative (digital on an analog chassis). It sounds like you already covered this, but that old grease can turn into hard lumps on the rail which must be removed before you can re-lubricate the rails. Also be careful how much solvent that you use on the rails. Machines of this era used two-sided tape to adhere a chromed strip to the scanner rail. If you saturate that two-sided tape the chrome strip can slip to one side, and the scanner may be running on sticky lumpy tape, not the chromed strip.

I don't need to tell you that it's an unpleasant task to peel off those chromed strips and re-stick them in the correct location, so use the minimum amount of solvent. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
