    Canon C3170 fax doesn't work

The fax is receiving the call in, display shows "receive fax" and the sending fax number, the only page printed is "failed communication".
Sending fax is similar, it is dialing the number, but never connect to the receiving fax, (there is no ringing at the receiving fax, a "failed communication" prints. I reset the country to the usa (it was there already), I can't find anything else in the setting, before I'm replacing the boards any idea? Thanks

    Press: Additional Functions
    Press: Communications Settings
Press: TX Settings (under Fax Settings)
Turn off the option, "Check for Dial Tone Before Sending"= IF MISSING>Set SW29 bit 0 to "0" under Service Mode > FAX > Ncu > SPECIALB. Be sure to power cycle the machine for the setting to take effect.

Shut down and restart the imageRunner

      What errors? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

The machine receives the job but doesn't print out. Have you check the log for fax in system monitor. Check the log and look at the failed jobs, They would probably say NG!. Highlight one of them and hit details and check the E-code. It will start with the #xxxx. Also you can try clearing MMI this will delete any jobs that are pending or that ended up in error, but print out a p-print and a user data report first. Some info will be deleted upon clearing MMI. Try sending something to the 3170, if that don't work try a 1&9 there might be a corrupt job or the system firmware could be corrupted. You should also try flashing the machine before changing anything.

Sounds like the phone line is plugged into the "TEL" jack instead of the "LINE" jack.

Maybe not, but I do know that what you're describing is what will happen.

If that may be. There would be a clicking pulse sound.
