I was trying to do the below fix from this forum
Error #853 when printing to the iR/iPR.
The issue in this situation was that no printing options ( PS / PCL / UFRII ) were detected in the "Counter Check" option on the Control Panel. Select the Counter Check button>Device Configuration><Options> if print options were registered, they would show up under the Option heading.
The iR/iPR did indicate that the printing LMS options were installed on the unit. In Service Mode, level 2, Copier > Option ><LCNS-TR>ST-PS / ST-PCL / ST-LXUFRII were all set to "1", indicating a valid LMS license was installed for the print options.
PRODUCTS AFFECTED- imagePRESS 1135, imagePRESS 1125, imagePRESS 1110

- iR C6880, iR C5880
- iR C5185, iR C5180, iR C4580, iR C4080
Action
Clearing the Main Controller in Service Mode resolved the #853 error.
*Once the Main Controller was cleared, the Counter Check option now indicated PS / PCL & UFRII and was able to print with no #853 errors.
Service Mode> Copier > Function > Clear ><MN-CON>
Note: In this instance, MN-CON was cleared twice to resolve error.Comment

Two, Verify whether or not you have a xtra 512mb memory dimm for PS. A lack of memory can also cause #853.
I've seen the tech pub that you posted. This particular case was on 5070.
Here are other things to guide you before you clear MCCON and cause more issues than what you have already.
-Make sure that the printer driver that you’re using is the correct
one for the operating system on the computer that you are
printing from and specific to the printer model that you’re printing
to.
-Check and verify that the correct and the required printer kit is
Installed (e.g. UFR, PCL, PS kit(s)).
-Reduce the number of pages to print.
-Erase unnecessary jobs that are stuck or in reserve.
-Turn off spooler on the printer, ADDITIONAL FUNCTION >
SYSTEM SETTINGS > NETWORK SETTINGS > USER
SPOOLER, set this value to OFF.
-Print out or erase secured print jobs that are stored or waiting to
be printed on the machine.
-Try printing again when other jobs have completed printing.

HOW TO ENTER SERVICE MODE (C2880)*
1) Hit the 'Additional Functions' button
2) Hit 2 & 8 simultaneously
3) Hit the 'Additional Functions' button
* Note do this sequence rather quickly
** USE ONLY AT your OWN Risk. I do this when I replace more than one toner
at a time as the Canon copiers often only reset the one it was requesting you
to change. So if say the machine runs out of Cyan, but both your Yellow and Magenta
are low, If you replace all 3 the machine will only reset Cyan to FULL. In service mode
you can reset the counters to 0% used again (all FULL).Comment

The following information is at your own risk - in the event that no tech is available. I discourage tinkering for sake of doing so.
Service Mode: Add Funct button, then numbers 2 and 8 together.,..
You wont need factory mode. but a good jam kill feature is in there if you cant get her going.. \

Re: How to get into Service Mode on a iR c2880?
Thanks for the info. from an old tec who works on too much crap to remember all the insanely different ways to enter service codes. I remember the old sharp days when there were only 15 tec commands in service mode.Comment
