If you scan any job from the copier when the ColorPASS is turned off, scanning is not
performed even though you turn on the ColorPASS subsequently, and Fiery Scan may not
be able to connect to the ColorPASS after the ColorPASS is restarted. If this happens,
    reboot the ColorPASS.

try checking firewall settings / & disable -or :
If u recently upgraded Windows components on a PC, specifically upgrading to Internet Explorer version 7/8 , the Fiery Scan utility may not function correctly when trying to scan into a TWAIN application.

U can restore the Z Series ColorPASS to Factory Defaults without Reloading System Software

First print out a Configuration Page:

    1) At the Control Panel, Press the Menu button to access the Functions menu.
    2) Choose Print Pages.
    3) Select Configuration.

    1) Make sure the ColorPASS is at Idle.
    2) Press the Menu button and choose Shut Down.
    3) Choose Reboot System.
    4) Immediately press the fourth line button (from the top down) and hold it down until the diagnostics have finished.
    5) Choose Restore Backup.

Z40? Wow isn't that the old dark gray one that mounted on the side and I believe had WinNT?

Have there been any changes with your setup recently?
