Interesting problem on IR C3170 because the scanner scans fine but copies washed uot looking when made from both glass & Doc Feeder. Would have suspected CIS if scans were light also but they look good. Any ideas?

Did you do the CCD_Adjust in service mode before you performed the Auto Gradation? Clean the CIS lens top before you run CCD_Adjust."Once a King, always a King, but once a Knight is enough!"

Switching text / photo mode to straight text helped some . Then adjusting other values in service mode improved image even more.... finished with another full gradiation adjust in add. func & image looks more or less ok. Thanks for your comments everyone. One remaining issue... first thing in the morning copies are light but image improves & darkens as the day progresses... Xfer roller in right side door assy degrading but after charging up throughout the day responds better to charge? Should I replace charge roller ? Thanks again for comments -- you guys are the best- Robert BlazesigpicAnything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.comComment

Meter about 130,000 and was bought used so not sure if developers have already been replaced or not. New drum installed and xfer cleaning unit adjusted to increase cleaning blade tension on ITB. This helped a lot with streaking. These machines soil patch sensor a lot if drum is old or developer is weak or if ITB not cleaned properly. (Canon modified the itb cleaning unit design some time ago to compensate part # FM2-0082-110) I'm also thinking about playing around in service mode with an adjustment that controls fogging to see if machine will run cleaner. I believe there is a way to estimate the mileage on the developers using electrical values from service mode - Dens-s which of reveal the ratio of carrier to toner . What does anyone think of adjusting OFST in svc mode ? (to reduce fogging)sigpicAnything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.comComment

found it / u need at least system firmware v30.22 for this mod to apply ="Modification to data which controls image density"./
new firmware is now 40.01a/ DCON v19.01/ RCON 52.01/BOOT 9.01/ALL &ALL-HDF v40.01
***Before registering the new imageRUNNER C3170 System Software v40.01a,
uninstall the “ALL” & “ALL_HDF” batch files previously installed in the
Service Support Tool so that the new “ALL” & “ALL_HDF” batch files which
include DCON v19.01 and RCON v52.01 install correctly.
***In preparations for the New Flash ROM, Canon USA is advising all dealers to
upgrade to DCON v19.01 and RCON v20.03 to avoid any future issues.
