I second the IR C3170 as the biggest POS of any color machine I ever worked on.
Most Popular Models? Troublesome Models

I am not sure if you are tech how you are going to stay away from any models. I mean as a tech you go and stand in front of anything that plugs into the wall and uses toner. I mean according to sales and managers a copier is a copier... right? So if you can prevent it by crying or faking a inability to learn new models than... I agree with the stay away from IR C3100/3170 and IR C5800/5870/6800/6870/C5068 series. Rotary developing system and C6800's are constantly needing developer changes and Fixing Assembly rebuilds. The ImagePress C1's use rotaries also but do produce excellent color but are needy. Need a lot maintanence and parts. Also, like said before, the IR C2280/3080/3380/3480 are great when used as business color or to replace b/w copiers. I actually have had a lot of success from these minus Drums. IR C4580/5180/5185 also pretty reliable when used as business color and not in pay for print operations. Drums and Fixing Assemblies (very expensive) are the most you have to do on these. For B/W copiers, IR 2200/2800/3300/3320 and 5000/5020/6000/6020 and 7086/7095/7105 are all very reliable. IR 5070/5075/5570/6570 are OK, but have a lot of Fixing issues and Drum cleaning issues. Guess the better thing to do would be to let us know what your company is selling contracts on or is planning to refurb and sell. The glass maybe half full, but less is more...
Printer + Fax + Copier = Jack Of Many Trades,
but Master Of None
Color Copier = Not A Color Printer
InkJet MFP = Not A Fax Machine
B/W Copier = Not A Press
Finisher = Deal Closer (salesman, not accessory)
Copier Tech = Admin's Stress Ball (Scapegoat)Comment
