How to Install and Configure Canon ScanGear Tool
Version 2.21 will work with all the non-color copiers
Run the EXE you just downloaded. By default the EXE unpacks the contents of the EXE to your TEMP folder.
TEMP FOLDER LOCATION on Windows 2000 through XP : C:\Documents and Settings\NameofUser\Local Settings\Temp
TEMP FOLDER LOCATION on Vista through Windows 7 : C:\Users\NameofUser\AppData\Local\Temp
Once installed, you will need to launch the ScanGear Tool and input the IP address of the copier. Make sure it connects successfully by click the "Test Connection" button
Now you can Scan with the copier. For this example, I am going to be using the "Microsoft Office Document Scanning" tool provided within Microsoft Office 2003 through 2010.
LOCATION OF MODS in XP, Vista, & Windows 7: Start Menu -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Tools
Now walk over to your Canon copier. Press the big SCAN button to switch the copier into SCAN mode.
Select the "Online" option to force the SCAN mode on. (It will start searching for the ScanGear client on your computer)
Place the document you are wanting to scan into the feeder tray on top of the Canon Copier. (It will not start scanning until feeder tray has paper in it)
On your computer, select Scan (black and white or color) and then the computer will begin scanning your documents.

After "re systeming" do you see the scan option from the control panel.

If there is an option for Enable Dedicated Port (or Enable Canon Port) under Additional Functions, System Settings, Network Settings, make sure it is set to ON.
DEDICATED PORTAdditional Functions > System Settings > Network Settings > Dedicated Port. Set to a 1
INSTALL SCAN GEAR>>>
Navigate to the Start Menu and click on Run copy and paste the following: Q:\\Drivers\\Canon\\ScanGear\\scangear 2.21\\driver\\us_eng\\DISK1\\Setup.exe
Follow the installation directions leaving the default values.
Once the installation is finished navigate to the Network Scangear folder in the Start Menu and click on Scangear Tool
Click on the discover button Note: This may take a few minutes
You should now see a list of available Canon Copiers that support the scanning feature (see below). Look in the location column to find the scanner nearest you. Once found click select and then exit the Scangear Tool.
Give yourself a pat on the back. The scanner is now set up to be used from your computer.
To Scan
Before attempting to scan you must insert your documents in to the document feeder on the copier and turn scan mode on.
On the copier control panel, enter your copier code.
On the top portion of the screen you should see a scan icon. On older copiers there may actually be a physical scan button.
By default the scanner is offline, you must switch it to online before you can begin scanning.
Insert the documents into the document feeder and return to your computer.
You may now open up the program you with to scan the document in to (Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Document Scanning, etc.) and begin scanning. Make sure to select Network Scangear as the scanner source.
