Hoping Canon make a driver update, any chance of it happening?

I bought my first (and definitely last) Canon copier recently and all my small test print jobs to try it out went well. Then as I went to print a real print job I got infuriated at Canon. Why? Most of my print jobs are 500 pages all to way up to 25 000 pages in some rare cases.

    So I do File>Print, 500 copies, OK

"Error: This printer does not support more than 99 copies"

I thought IS THIS A JOKE? I bought an $800 business color copier and it refuses to print more than 99 pages? I was so mad at Canon the second I was done reading that error. I had been buying exclusively HP printers none of which had ANY print limit, even cheap home models (which I haven't bought in well over 5 years, I get business line models).

As I posted in another thread this Canon printer is an exact duplicate of an HP color laserjet printer. I installed the HP's drivers hoping they would work on the Canon as they are the same physical printer (I actually use HP cartridges in it as they cost much less) but it didn't work. Needless to say though, the HP driver did not have a ridiculous 99 page print limit.

Is there any hope Canon makes a driver update to remove this limit if I threaten to return the copier and ask for a full refund if they don't? I already have by email but they want me to call my local Canon number which I haven't yet had time to do.

If not, is there any chance I could get a full refund even though I used the included toner cartridges already? The store said i'd have to pay for the cartridges if they were considerably used, but the included cartridges are half full and new ones are $700, that's $200 more than I paid for the printer. I mean this is really a beyond absurd limitation for an $800 machine, even $50 HP printers let you print as much as you want.

In any case both times I got a non-HP printer I regretted it (the other being an Epson with a printhead that failed after 2 weeks/50 prints). I got my lesson this time, I'm sticking to HP from now on. The reason I got this Canon even though HP has an identical one is that the Canon was $300 off on special (maybe because no one wants to pay $800 for a machine that can't print more than 99 pages).

      Which model do you have????

Copy limit can be change. Default is 999. But we need to know what model you have.

I got this relatively small color laser copier as an introduction to laser printing (I had been using only HP business inkjets due to the dramatically lower cost per page than laser printers). If I like it and find it worth paying dozens of times more in toner per page then I will get a bigger one later on.

It is the Canon ImageClass MF8350Cdn

I realize this forum seems to be for much bigger machines but am hoping I can still get help here.

I had to refill the registration form 20 times before it got accepted, so I hope I do get useful replies as I went through an absolute nightmare to register here.

I was used to the quality of features of HP and stupidly expected Canon to be as good. I learned from my mistake, my next printer will be HP.

Mistakes are how most of us learn our lessons... Better luck with your next printer!

I still like this Canon other than the 99 page print limit (which I'll get around by sending multiple print jobs) which is beyond ridiculous, there's no reason at all to have put such a limit, other than maybe hope people will buy the next model up to make more money (although this limitation isn't listed anywhere, it does mention the 99 PHOTOCOPY limit which I don't mind at ll, but I had never seen a limit when printing from a PC). If their hope was to make me buy the next model up, instead they just ensured I will never buy another Canon copier (unless they remove the limitation).

Almost ALL MFPs in this range have a 99 copy per job limit. In fact, there are considerably more expensive machines that have the same limitation.

Machines in this market segment simply aren't designed to do the volume that you're looking to do, so it would only be logical to not expect lengthy runs.

Would you expect to be able to drive coast to coast and back in a Yugo without any massive issues? Of course not. The same rationale applies here.

You misread my issue. I'm not talking about the 99 PHOTOCOPY limit, even my HP inkjet has that limit and I don't have a problem with that.

I'm talking about a 99 page PRINT limit (as in printing from a PC), if I do File>Print, 500 copies, I get an error that reads "This printer does not support more than 99 copies" (however, I can print a 500 page document just fine as it's only 1 copy of 500 pages, the limit is on number of copies, not pages printed).

The same printer made by HP doesn't have any limit at all for printing, even a $50 home HP inkjet doesn't have any print limit.

I was stupidly expecting Canon products to be as well made as HP, as I said before I got my lesson and this is my first and last Canon copier.

I always do 1000+ print jobs on my $600 HP business inkjet copier without any problems, I've done 250 000 prints so far on my inkjet, I expected an $800 laser copier to be able to do the same.

BTW this is no physical limitation of the machine, Canon intentionally set a limit in the software driver which is beyond absurd (again, HP has an IDENTICAL copier to my canon and it doesn't have any print limit at all).

Other things I find ridiculous about this Canon copier:
-250 sheet paper tray, most small inkjets hold this much, my HP business inkjet holds 600 sheets, an additional tiny 250 sheet tray costs... $300, as much as buying 6 Canon inkjet printers!
-Scanner only scans one side, ALL HP copiers I've seen have double sided scanners, even the small home models that have an ADF I'm quite sure do double sided scanning

You need to post on one of those review forums.

                              Buy a copier.
