How is it that a $200 Canon inkjet copier has a duplex scanner but not an $800 laser?

As I posted before I recently got a Canon MF8350Cdn Canon copier (an absolute joke compared to HP products, it's my first and last Canon machine).

I knew it only had a single sided scanner and I assumed Canon just wasn't smart enough to figure out how to make a duplex scanner like all HP machines have.

Then at the store I saw a $200 Canon home office inkjet copier that had a duplex scanner. This is really insulting, how can they put a duplex scanner on a $200 home inkjet machine and not on a $800 color laser office machine?

Anyway this is just one of several beyond ridiculous things about this MF8350Cdn and why I'm never getting another Canon machine again, HP is far ahead in terms of features, support, customer care, and user friendliness.

Amazing that HP bought millions of print engines from Canon...and rebranded them as LaserJets...Incredibly reliable. Canon makes great products and has been in the business of imaging a moving piece of paper for many years...HP....computers. $200 for ink jet.....$800 for Laser....two totally different technologies. Ink Jet is Disneyland...Laser is office. The operating cost over time is a lot less on the laser machine than ink jet. Comparing apples and oranges. Obviously not a tech....

You obviously know nothing about business inkjets, if you read my other posts you'd see that the operating cost for inkjet is a tiny fraction of laser.

When people hear inkjet most think of small home inkjet printers with half a teaspoon of ink per color that literally cost $2-5 per page.

I've had an HP business inkjet for years and they are made specifically to beat laser printers in both speed (about 50% faster at same quality settings, or 400% faster on draft) and cost per page (50% the cost per page of laser printers). I print color pages at 0.5 cents a page total cost on my inkjet, that includes the wear on printheads which last 50 000 prints, and I've done 250 000 prints so far on my HP business inkjet.

Find me a single laser printer with a total cost per color page of 0.5 cents, you won't find any. Plus that 0.5 cents a page is for actual prints, not 5% coverage, at 5% coverage I'm probably at 0.2 cents a page.

OK, I'll admit that I buy ink by the liter, but even if you buy genuine HP cartridges, the total cost per page is still half that of laser printers, and with compatible cartridges it's about 25 times less per page (about 50 times less per page than laser when buying ink by the liter).

Ink costs a fraction of the cost of toner, so laser printers will NEVER cost less per page than inkjets, it's simply impossible for as long as toner costs tens of times more than the same amount of ink.

You're obviously not a tech, or certainly not a knowledgeable one if you fool people into thinking the cost per page is less on laser, but then again you've been fooled yourself.

I've worked on all of the above for years...wide format included. Believe what you want. But if you just wanna whine, don't do it on a tech forum....get a life.

aab1,,, please find a new hobby! I personally am tired of your continued tirade against entry level Canon products. You have asked only 1 or 2 legitimate questions during your time here. We have given you the advice you asked for. Enough of the cost per page discussion, find a new pony to ride. I wish you all the best, I am not flaming you here, I am simply asking you to move your discussion of the wonders of your HP printing experience to some other discussion thread, not in this Canon area...

God guys....quit taking the bait and responding to his posts. He has "attention whore deficit disorder" and craves attention to such an extent that he will do anything to receive it. The type of attention (negative or positive) does not matter. He spends all of his time bothering people on the internet to compensate for his lack of a life and hatred of humanity for not accepting him. Probably got picked on in school and comes online talking a lot of non-sense to higher his self-esteem.

I very much appreciate and respect others on this site and the efforts they make to help by posting and it is not typical of me to respond in this way but.....we all have our limits. He just comes here to push all our buttons. Quit giving him the satisfaction!

I can't stop thinking that if he got a nuke in his possession and a chance to drop it somewhere of his liking, he'd go to the interwebs looking for the Canon's HQ address.
