Best B&W Canon Copier to Buy Used?

We have a small office and our copier that we inherited from another office has been nothing but trouble, Bizhub C250. It even wanted us to replace the color imaging units and it had only done 252 color copies.

I have had Canon copiers years ago and got good service out of them.

What B&W models are generally trouble free. And have reasonably priced consumables. Large desktop or freestanding is fine.

We don't have a big budget as we are paid by the state to care for the mentally retarded.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

The iR2200/2800/3300 is great device series. We have lots of that series on field; many of them have over 250k in meter. And even one iR3300 has about 700k in its meter, and its still working like a charm. And they don't require lots of maintenance.

They are also very cheap devices to buy. Price depends on options and meter count, of course.

I concur with iRC,,, the 3300 family is the best Canon B&W copier in that monthly usage range. They remain my favorite copier model to this day!

Just a precaution - stay away from the iR3570 and 4570. They're nowhere near as good as their older cousins.

If you struggle to find an iR3300 (or 3320), it may be step up, but the iR5000 would be a safe bet, although a larger machine.

They run very well and last a long time. I know that some dealers have actually had a refurb program for the iR5000. (Not sure on other models, though.)

Any brand machine, or model is only as good as the service it recieves.

Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

IR5020 is the oldest i service atm. Just need a string of corrona wire, cleaning web and a bag to dump yer wast toner. Seen them with original Pressure roller, corrona assy's and cl blade over 1M copies.

The 3300 series is a tank, but it does have some issues. While they do printing very well when networked, they have a lot of limitations when it comes to scanning. The other issue for you is if you decide to have the machine under maintenance or not. While I always recommend keeping a machine under contract, this can be especially important for a 3300 series machine due to the hard drives going out on them. They also can get you for the occasional fixing unit, but not very often. I don't want to scare you off from them at all. I have several that have well over 1 million copies on them and are still going strong. I concur with IR 5000 as well. Excellent machine.

If you are looking for something a bit smaller in a desk top range, stay away from IR 1370/1670 series and look at IR 1023 instead.

Finally, I also agree it makes a huge difference on who services the machine. You can have the "best" machine, but if the service sucks on it, then in general, it won't be a pleasant experience.

I still remember putting trays of water in the bottom of these to try and increase the amount of moisture in the machine during the winter time....Those were great times!!!!!
