iR3200 taking a long time to process most files.

Hi there, first of all thanks for all the info I've been able to find so far. It had saved a lot of frustration getting and setting up this copier/printer.
I picked up an iR C3200 because it was the cheapest 11x17 colour printer I could find. I'm a student and printing costs were starting to kill me.

The problem I am encountering is that when I send something to print it will send to the printer fine but the printer will say processing forever before it eventually prints. For example I went to print a 30 page PDF of a scanned material for class and it was still processing an hour after it was sent. I went to bed and it had printed fine sometime over night. I've also had this problem sending files with lots of graphics as well.

I'm printing from a mac running os 10.6.5
Connected directly to the printer with an ethernet cable (couldnt for the life of me figure out how to get it to print connected to my router but that's fine)
I have it set up as an IP printer using Canon iR C3200 PS (US) drivers gotten from the Canon website

I don't think it's a problem with any software because it does send to printer, although that can take a while and sometimes freezes as well, but the biggest problem is after the file makes its way to the printer and it has to process it.

I'm definitely a user not a tech, although I'm pretty good at figuring things out and following instructions. If you need anymore information please tell me where and how I go about finding it for you guys.

    Thanks in advance,
    Andrus

Usually a HD clear in service mode (or "clear server" if you have a fiery) will resolve this issue.

Sorry if I sound stupid, but I don't understand many of the abbreviations in the service mode. Can you please outline which options I should select to perform a HD clean.
How would I know if I have fiery, I know it's a RIP but would it be built in or a stand alone component?

The RIP would be on the back of the machine and is rectangular in shape. It has a seperate power cord and two cables connecting from the RIP to machine. There is also a larger version of this RIP called a C2 and it has a set of digital LED's on it. Since neither supports MAC 10.6 I hope you have the internal print board and by the sounds of it you have the wrong print driver installed or have it set up incorrectly.

More than likely it is the print driver you are using since you are running MAC 10.6

It is possible to print to a 3200 series with a C1 even though they don't make the driver:

            Adding a Canon 3200 with a C1 to a MAC with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.2):

Here is a quote to print from Snow Leopard Mac OS 10.6.2 to a Canon C1 controller instructions and downloads, Apple - Support - Discussions - Canon Support for Snow Leopard ...

The imagePASS-C1 does not support the UFR2 printer language. Only the internal Canon printer board supports this language. With the external imagePASS you have to use the PS driver for this print controller and this will still allow you to use Dept ID for printing on SL.
The PS driver you require has to be the Universal Binary version which was released to support the Intel Mac's back in 2006. The previous C1 driver was Power PC and this will not work on your Intel Mac running SL. If your Mac users were previously using Leopard on Intel Mac's then they would already have this PS driver.

If they don't have it, you can download the C1 UB driver via this link:

After installing this driver, you will then need to run a patch that changes permissions on the driver files.
If you don't run the patch, you will get errors when you select to print.
The patch can be downloaded from EFI via the following link:
EFI - Support - Software & Drivers Download

Further more, installing this machine on your network (router) is very simple to do. First question: do you have a C1 or a C2 (the steel box illustrated by Charm5496)?

zoraldinho, if he admits he is not a tech, do you honestly expect him to have the service manual?

First of all, as you mentioned you are a user not a tech. So get out of service mode.
Secondly, use the UFRII driver not PS.

If you don't have an Imagepass or Colorpass, your PS is emulated anyway. As stated, use the UFR driver

                  Hi Guys

Sorry for the long delay in response haven't had any time to try and get this sorted out, however, I have been able to fix the problem.
First of all, thanks to everyone who offered advice and support.
After struggling with this last night for a long time and having huge issues trying to track down the UFR driver for this printer (which I never found) I decided to try playing around with some setting on the computer end of the equation.
Turns out I was able to solve the problem by changing the IP Protocol from Line Printer Daemon to HP Jet Direct - Socket and all is solved!
Odd that every document I was able to get my hands on said to use the LPD Protocol!

I was also able to track down a copy of the Service Manual somewhere online

So again thanks to everyone who offered advice and I'm sure your expertise will come in useful next time I have issues with the unit!

Do not play in service mode>

use a CROSSOVER CABLE to print
