IR 550 EO60 error - I'm back with a new prob

This machine has worked well since my last problem, disassembly and reassembly, worked like a dream actually.

Now I have this error code that translates as HV DC (transfer) Board Problem.

I have two spare parts machines, I just don't have a clue where and what this is.

Any help out there (in here?)

If u do not know where the transfer/separation unit is and or the HV DC PCB-
U need to place a service call for a Canon Tech to visit

Newbie but clever

It was a late night here and I was in the middle of production. There is only one service tech in this far remote corner of BC and he is a really good tech. Has helped me out enormously. But he is not always available. After taking things apart and looking closely I was able to locate the prob, check my spare unit, found a good part, and it worked again. Working on the second edition now, I do two 1000 copy 12 page booklets a week. Not too big a production but the IR 550 runs for eight hours steady to put it out. And it is all deadline news production so I panic with a breakdown.

I really appreciate all the help I get here. I don't know all the intricacies of these machines but after spending my entire working life (35 years) in the mechanical electrical field there isn't much that gets by me.

Thanks though, I'll likely end up asking for help again.

Sorry took so long to get back to you. It was really simple after I looked deeper. Just a broken tungston wire. So I replaced the unit from the other spare machine.

Got another problem I haven't been able to solve though. I changed the solenoid, check the actuator, but the felt still doesn't move on its own. I keep moving in manually after 1000 to 2000 copies. Maybe should do it more frequently.

WD 40 seems to clean the roller nice when it gets dirty and the copies still come out very clean. But I am ruining the fixer roller.

u can check if wire cleaner is moving in service mode

under I/O mode check DC-CON I/O P003 BIT 7 =

0 read is Home position for MSW6 for Trans/Sep actuator- move out to center position / power up printer- should drive back to HP

Check the reduction gear drive that advances the web. These gears can start to crumble after long exposure to heat. The red/orange teflon coating on the heat roller is also worn out. This is a regular consumable. Also be careful with the web retainers. They're made of plastic and also crumble.

When disassembling the fuser be careful with the halogen heat lamps. Like any halogen lamp, if you touch the lamp it shortens it's life, sometimes to mere seconds. You can touch the ceramic ends only.

When you get the fuser reassembled, be sure to clean the bed belts (3" wide belts with little holes in them) with orange cleaner. The oil from the web will make it slick and cause transport jams.

Congratulations on finding the broken corona wire. When you're ready to re-string the corona wire it may take you a dozen times to get a wire in there that is properly tensioned. This is one of the few tasks that requires an element of skill. When I was stringing 24 or more wires a day, I could do it at 1 minute per wire, but it's been a long time. Very few machines use corona wires anymore. =^..^=

Also check the one-way bearing that the solenoid actuator moves.
