    CANON DR-7080c "PLEASE WAIT" issue

Hello everyone! I recently shipped one of these to a customer and now it's always saying "please wait". Im sure something got bounced around during shipping and just wanted to know if anyone knows any common causes for this issue. Per the customer, it powers up and seems to go through it's checks. ADF cycles, scanner lamp comes on, scanner ass'y moves(not sure how much, since it's not in front of me). Any help would be great!

First be sure that the Scanner Transport Screw was removed. If that is removed re-seat the connections on the Reader Controller.

"Please Wait" is Shown on the Display. The Optics move during initial rotation and the Scan Lamp comes on. When you try to turn the Scan Lamp on in Service Mode it fails.

    Solution :
This can be an indication that your CCD unit is faulty.

'Please Wait' is shown on the Display - DR 7080C
Check that the DDI-Serial Cable on the DC Controller is making good contact. Re-seat the cable.

If the 'Please wait' is the original problem, make sure the CIS unit lamps come on and the assembly moves out of home position and then back in again. If the CIS unit is not at home position move it to the home position and turn on the scanner again.

CIS unit reads the white mark on the underneath side of the glass at power on. Do not power up with glass removed-If the white strip is not there it will give the 'Please wait' error message.

A Please Wait message is displayed after a DR 7080C scanner has been moved or shipped to a different location.
The problem was found to be a missing mylar sheet that is attached to the mirror assembly. The mylar sheet extends out from the metal plate on the mirror assembly 7 mm. This mylar sheet is what actually blocks the home position sensor. It can be seen in the image just above the lower cable.
      mylar.jpg
In the image below the mirror assembly is blocking the home position sensor. The sheet can become dislodged by repeated bouncing of the mirror assembly during transportation.

To resolve the problem find the missing mylar sheet in the machine and re-attach it using this two sided adhesive tape. If the mylar sheet cannot be found the dimensions for the sheet are 40mm x 17mm. The part number for the mirror assembly is FM2-0624-000.

Or>Try re-seating the ribbon cables between the reader controller PCB and the CCD assembly.
To access the cables remove the platen glass and then the metal cover over the CCD assembly.
