    ir-3300 paper jam code 1082

    hi all!

We got a used but in pretty good shape ir-3300 (about 1,200,000 copies on it)in school where i work and after cleaning it up and replaced drum unit, i get some intermittent paper jam here and there but copy quality is near perfect.

When asking for 30- 35 pages copy, at 12-13 copy it jams and about three pages are stuck along the paper route, after checking service mode jam log, it trow 1082 so i want to have your opinion to where i should start checking what could be the cause.

i've cleaned most of the rollers and they all seems in good working condition
    .
    thanx in advance

      Jam Code 1082 =
finisher jam at stack return sensor S3. If there is a bind or slippage in the delivery drive this error can occur because the paper is delayed in reaching the the sensor within the allotted time.

To check the drive assembly, first remove the J1 Finisher from the machine.

Next manually turn the gears that drive the delivery rollers. You should feel even pressure as you turn the gears and rotate the delivery roller shaft 360 degrees (do this a couple of times so that you have a good feel of the mechanism).
If a bind is present it may be necessary to disassemble the lower guide assembly (Q32 in parts manual) then remove and/or re-seat the shaft figure Q32 shaft # 8.
While you have this disassembled it is a good idea to replace the one way gear shown on figure Q21 # 4 FS7-0926-000 as it is very difficult to see if this one way gear is slipping.

      Also Check>>>>
This type of jam can occur when the Return Roller does not move, after the Delivery Motor M1 has turned on. Check the Return Roller drive belt to make sure it has not fallen off the drive pulley. If the belt is on, you may need to adjust the tension of the belt.

You will not find them in the copier manuals, you need to access the info in the accessories manuals for the J1 internal finisher...

Ok. so i've gone to the school this afternoon to make these checks on the copier and all i have to say is... omg the internal finisher is a pita to remove from there!!!

i removed the cover and the stapler unit anddidn't see where to start dismantling this finisher! I'll have to find the service manual for this accessory before dissassembling it.

On the upper left cover though, (marked also j1 finisher) i've checked a little belt located in that door that is pretty loose, so i'll probably have to replace it. after cleaning and playing with it, i notice less jam but restarted soon after.

so if anyone have a pdf manual for this internal j1 finisher accessory, i appreciate to have it as i will maintain this copier and sure will need it from time to time.

            thanx

Just to let you know all (and especially those who directed me in the right direction and provided all the service manuals) that i succeeded in dismantling the j1 finisher and replaced two worn out belt (and adjusted) and an broken plastic arm that i found. Now i reassemble it completely and after testing, it seems to be o.k. (no more paper jams).

I've never worked on copier machine and i must say that it's not an easy task with all those little parts but, i'm glad to get it working well again so thank you for your help.

                good work effort~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                believe it or not-
Canon does not teach u anymore how to work on any Accessories in school
                ,
I learned a very long time ago how to repair Sorters,DF's,Decks,Nagle Finisher,u name it .
It was all trial and error, with limited info provided in Canon manuals-i've seen them all.

When B&W tech's moved to Color products, we had to teach the Color only trained tech's how to repair these options, some had never even seen a Sorter.

                  Thank you Teckat!

Being totally new to this world, my goal is only to maintain and repair this particular model where i work as second job. Thus saving on labor on this machine that is slowly replacing an IR-330 that is under a service contract costing an arm and a leg.

Working on it on my own will make me know this machine better and more easy to repair.
I think (hope) that the j1 finisher is the most complex part of this copier.

Glad it now work well again.

oh an by the way... I have a question about the stapler unit on this machine..
Since repaired the finisher, each time i switch on the copier, the stapler punches a lot of staples at start up... can you tell me why it does that and where goes all the staples that are being ejected from it??? any way to correct this? or it's normal!

                    Thanx

that is not normal/ staples end up in printer

                      from an old tech pub>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Check that the black actuator arm for the Stapler Edging Sensor, S17, did not become dislodged. Reinstall actuator arm if needed.

omg... i found that plastic part in the bottom of the copier but never see it in the part manual so i tought it was not a part of the copier.

I have it sitting on my desk at school so i'll reinstall it and it will solve that problem.

                        Thanx a lot

LOL Wait until it won't lift the paper tray in cassette 1 and you have to rplace the lifter gear, knife and lock assembly! Lotsa fun! Other than the pick up assembly its a very service friendly machine. I think one of Canon's best
