mm! good to know... but i think the pick up thingny has been replaced not a long time ago by the first owner of the copier.
This machine was owned by a costco warehouse here in Canada (where i work as my main job) and they've done about 1 215 000 copies with it and when they changed all the office appliance, i offer to buy it for a private school ( where i work as my second part time job). i got it for 600$ along with a new toner cartridge. The drum unit was worn out and have to replace it as soon as i got the copier (it has about 115,000 copies on it... way beyond was it supposed to do i think) i replaced it for 110$ and wit 30$ worth of small pieces, i manage to repair the jam problem of the j1 finisher. (with your help) so i think it will now run well for a while. (i hope :-) )
