[CQ] Text shading in PCL

I got a call today from a customer printing from PCL driver in a CLC5151.

He says that when he prints from PCL driver : black text and black lines have some tiny shade.
Application he is printing from mostly are : Ms Office & CAD based.

This does not happen when he prints from PS. But he prefers NOT to print from PS in CAD environment.

He is using latest drivers.

Is there some setting in the PCL driver which I am forgetting ?

I am assuming they are using PCL6, might be worth giving PCL 5 a go.

If When using PCL 6 and printing through a UFRII/PCL Kit-N2, fonts are printed in full color and are very BOLD.

Install and use the UFRII Ver. 2.35 Print Driver. When printing in some applications with small fonts and/or line work, the PCL6 driver will BOLD these areas but the UFRII Driver will print them correctly.

I totally agree with Teckat; the UFRII driver should be the way to go.

On the other side of the proverbial coin, though, most CAD applications (you didn't say which one) practically scream PostScript. I've noticed things like arrowheads and cross-hatching get messed up with PCL drivers, especially in AutoCAD.

I've had this issue before on the PCL driver.
Go into printing preferences->Quality Tab-> Details-> check "Grey Compensation"

I showed him the sample of Teckat and he agreed that was the one.

He is printing from Autocad. He doesn't like PS. It takes too long to print "gradient hatch" - he said.

You probably know how difficult it is to argue with someone who is convinced to know it wright.

However I gave him the option of UFR II and grey compensation.

He will report after few days.
