    canon mf 4450

    Dear All;

I have a problem in many canon mf 4450 multifunctions.
the problem is that machine unable to send or receive faxes!!
when i open the phone line to send a fax, i hear the tone voice, i hit the fax number that i want to send to, but nothing changes, i keep hearing the same continuous tone voice and there is no way to send the fax, all i get is the continuous tone voice.
have anyone experienced this issue before and can help me. i wish.
    Regards to you All.

Dear Sir, i can assure to you that the telephone line is very clear ( no interference with other electrical devices...etc).
the activity report lists many Negative comunications Results with the description ( AUTO TX G3 -NG 00'00 #995).
please note that when i open the phone line to send the fax, i hear the voice tone, then when i hit the first number of the destination fax number, the voice tone gets louder and keeps toning toooooooooooot forever, and the machine does not respond to any button i hit after that.
i have to turn the machine off and on again to stop that toning from going off.
unfortunately i do not have the service manual for this machine.
any suggestion to solve this issue

          Thanks.

            Thanks.

when did this issue start ? where u or another tech working on printer ??
have u run a Line test in service mode ??

            #995 [ TX / RX ] Job Canceled
            Cause
-Memory communication reservation jobs were cleared, someone
            deleted the job
            Remedy
-Repeat the procedure (job) if necessary

did u have the line tested ??
Fax machines communicate over single line phone networks where the 'Ring' and 'Tip' voltages are always located across the two center terminals. Line voltages are checked accordingly:
on-hook voltage (phone is hung up)
--set the volt meter to 200 vdc
--should read within the 48vdc ~ 52vdc range
off-hook voltage (phone is off-hook and dial tone is generated)
--set the volt meter to 200 vdc
--should read within the 8 vdc ~ 12 vdc range
            ringing voltage (incoming call)
--set the volt meter to 200 vac
--should read within the 75 vac ~ 105 vac range

RJ11-C Modular jack: Testing phone line voltages can be difficult if not impossible at times unless you can establish a really good connection to the phone line.
The RJ11-C box can be used to establish a good connection.

--RJ11-C box with two female connectors (remove the cover and test with your meter across the red and green terminals). An additional phone cable is required.

--RJ11-C box with one male and one female connector; remove the cover and test with your meter across the red and green terminals).

              Dear Teckat,
i have just checked the phone line and the voltages on it. All voltages ( on-hook, off hook and voltage during ringing on ) are CORRECT.
please let me focus again on the state that the machine goes through:

"when i hang on to send the fax, i hear the voice tone, then when i hit the first botton number of the destination fax number, the voice tone gets louder and keeps toning toooooooooooot forever, and the machine does not respond to any button i hit after that.
i have to turn the machine off and on again to stop that toning from going off."

i Deeply appreciate any other suggestion from you.
              Regards.

What happens when you plug in a plain old analog telephone? Can you dial now? Do you need a prefix? Is the phone line plugged into the handset jack? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

ofcourse the phone line is not plugged into the handset jack.

Then it's a problem with the phone line, not the fax.
Why "of course"? The same RJ11 jack is used for both the line and the handset. It's a very common mistake to choose the wrong one. =^..^=

As Blackcat pointed out, and as you did in this reply, if you cannot originate a phone call with the telephone hooked to this line, you have an issue that needs to be addressed by the phone service provider...

Always go to the analog handset when diagnosing possible line problems.

let me say it again, i can not dial any number from this machine from any kind of phone line.
the issue is not in the company phone. it is in the machine itself.
