guys, everyone is approaching this the wrong way-
clone a good hdd with latest f/w and keep a libary
it is far quicker(for us) when e602 comes in -for us to refer to our libary pull ANY hdd out stock and just write our backup to it with an ide adapter,it also means we can send not so i.t literate guys to machine and they gain confidence.

the only execption to this is the latest xx70 range which canon have encrypted and at present can't be cloned ,but it will only be a matter of time...

That's what I would like to do, but I can't find a similar machine here (Tbilisi, Georgia). Maybe some of you have such copier (iR3300), which also works as a network printer. I would be really grateful if you could let me download the HDD image of iR3300. Please...

Thanks anyway There should be a way to get this image... How could it be 4 Gb, if the firmware file (extracted) is about 300 Mb?

              canon hard drives and sst

This is why I rarely respond to hard drive problems anymore. If you are not a certified Canon Tech, it is to complicated to explain the use of the Service Support Tool over a forum. All this shit about cloneing drives and trying to cheat the system is a waste of time and money and you sure aren't taking care of the customer!!!

I agree lkrsardis , this is very challenging even to a ip guy, Having Canon support is a big plus and knowing how to use it is another big plus.

sooo missing the point,we are canon(uk) authorised ,however canon are now supplying drives that are 'clipped'(within europe) i.e 40gb partioned to represent only 20gb say as an example-these fail sometimes not even registering with sst(latest now 3.35ek)

what would you prefer client machine to stay down for best part of week while waiting for 'slow moving part' (new description for when part has to be sourced from europe) or my solution outlined before?

we are in no way cheating the customer or canon merely trying to enhace our response to our client base & i was only sharing the knowledge i have gained(which surely is the point of these forums?),if a non authorised non trained agent attempts this good luck to them without the manuals, training and offical resources anything else will pull them down, just look at some the posts for e005,e019,how do i clear counters etc

                  regards

                    hard drives

We keep the drives in stock from Nationwide and are guarantied to work. I can see your point though. If you look back in the posts you will see request after request for the sst and ssw. It is illegal here to export most of the ssw to a foreign country. . Have a great day.

Guys, I understand what you are talking about... but my situation is different. I'm not trying to be a "Canon certified tech". I just had to find a solution in Georgian reality. When I found my finisher J1 broken down, I called the Canon guys and told them about the problem. It was about 8 months ago. They promised to come to our office, but we are still waiting for them. Called them at least 5 times, they promised to come, but again, no luck. When HDD was broken and needed to be changed, I called them again and they (as usual) promised to come and check the drive. I was waiting too long and then tried to find a solution by myself. Nobody can say that I'm waisting my time. Our iR3300 is the only network printer / copier in our office and without it we are unable to work normally. The thing is that we can not order this drive outside of country. The supplier should be from our country. I don't know why, but the head of our finance dept. said so...

Now, what can I do? I believe that cloning method should work. There's nothing sophisticated. There's only one precondition - the HDD image should be taken from iR3300 (which works as a network printer and copier) exactly. So, I'm still looking for it on Georgian forums. Maybe somebody has this machine in their office... And, besides, it's impossible for us to pay 500 USD or even more for this drive. We didn't buy this machine, it's a gift from EU commission.

you need to edit the hdi file under the roms folder in service tool to include the hard drive model you are using

ie inside the format option open the format file with notpad you will se lots of diff drives

                            ie
                            toshiba mk2023gas
