IR 3570 with S1 Finisher - Collate Problems

First 10 copies come out fine then the finisher starts to get confused. The little flappers do not want to clamp down on the paper and the paper starts to get out of alignment in the tray. Eventually everything ends up on the floor. Unfortunately it does not create a jam so I don't have a code. Just annoyed.

I am not a tech but have maintained all my office equipment for past 7 years calling is service when it is beyond a simple adjustment. Was able to adjust settings to eliminate paper feed jams (0207 code) using the forum so I thought I would post and see if this is an adjustment or a rebuild.

Thanks for any advice (other than just don't make more than 10 copies;-)

try cleaning the grey rollers that feed and hold the paper at the exit. They get dirty and the paper slips underneath them.
Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned.

These little finishers are a mechanical marvel of levers, cams, solenoids. If you think you'll forget how it was assembled maybe you can snap a few photos at key stages of disassembly.

Honestly this finisher is not a good choice for an amateur to try to service. If cleaning the rollers does not help, I'd recommend that you let the professionals take a shot at it. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Shine a torch into the finisher and just above the staple unit is a black guide.

Take 30 sheets of paper place these into the feeder and set the machine to staple, shine your torch into the finisher. Is the paper going above the black guide and not getting stapled?

        -----------------------------------------------------------

I have replaced this guide and the problem didn't go away, if you remove it the machine will work fine.

had this and it was the bracket that goes up with the arm that lifts the feed rolls. It was cracked and preventing lift. If you take off the top cover and move the assembly by hand you'll see what's causing it. 4A3-1110-000 was the culprit for me.

Yeah there were some updates for this finisher. The controler saw basically a reengineering in the field. Your best bet is to pay someone to update your finisher controler if it can be updated...replace if needed. Plus install the updates, one sucks and is a black flag for a sensor on a spring. The others are easy. Plus there is the main harness than can wear out over time. All of these parts are super cheap. If you need a whole new controler that should be about $150.00.

And like some of these posts suggest you may have a broken part. Its been many years since I seen this problem. After this finisher is updated and cleaned and lubed it really is a marvel to watch and solid as a rock!

Thank you all for the responses. When I watched all the levers, rollers and cams in action I knew I had better resist my primal urge to take it apart and see how it works. You have me convinced. I will get my friendly technician in who owes me a free service call for a tradeout we did. I will update the post with his solution in case it helps. The machine has 750,000 copies on the clock so some cleaning and adjustment is certainly to be expected.

I'm 99.9999% certain that it's a break in the linkage that you cannot see from the side looking in you *must* pop off the cover. Remove front cover then it's just three screws to get the top cover off. When you move it by hand then you'll have your eureka moment :-) Good luck man let us know how you made out.
