    Re: Ethernet board pcb assembly

You can't just fit a NIC to a 5000 and expect it to work. From memory I am pretty sure you will need to fit a new Boot ROM and will certainly need to upgrade the system software to the "N" version.
    Hope this helps.

If you are adding the NIC just for the sole purpose of upgrading the firmware you are probably going to be dissapointed as it doesn't always function with all the files and you get a ton of errors. The best way to upgrade the IR-5000 is still with the parallel cable or nethawk cable. And that is the board you want to install for network connectivity.

And if you have no laptop with the parallel port, or the Nethawk cable, there are plenty of regular PC's that still have the port, you may even be able to use one of the customers PC's. Just make sure the parallel cable is IEEE-1394 compliant...

          All imageRUNNER-iR Series
E740 Codes and the New Style Ethernet Boards (NICs)

          Error :
Getting an E740 code on the copier LCD screen.

          Workaround :
Please be aware that the information presented here is only applicable to the models listed.

The copier must have the new style Ethernet Board PCB (NIC) installed. If the copier's firmware (system software) is not up to date, an E740 code will be displayed when the new style NIC is installed in the copier. The solution is to simply update the copier's firmware to the latest versions.

          -----------------------------------------

          UPDATE:

There is a newer Ethernet PCB for the imageRUNNER Series for problems connecting to Cisco Power Over Ethernet (part number FM1-0196-000).

          Ethernet Board PCB (NIC):
Original Style - part number FG6-5964-000
Newer Style - part number FG6-9898-000
Newest Style - part number FM1-0196-000

With this new NIC, there are some newer firmware versions needed or the E740 code will still display. This NIC CANNOT be installed on the old style iR5000. Here are the versions needed for FM1-0196-000:

Ethernet Board PCB (NIC) Changed from Old to New Style
Requiring the Latest System Software to Prevent an E740 Code

As the old-type Ethernet Board PCB (NIC) cannot be obtained anymore, a new-type Ethernet Board PCB
will take it’s place. With this change, a System Software & Boot-ROM upgrade will be required.
POINTS TO NOTE ABOUT SERVICE WORK:
The new-type Ethernet board cannot be recognized when it is used with earlier versions of System
            Software other than the following:
            imageRUNNER 5000: System Software Version & 19.02 BootROM Version 14.54 & later
            imageRUNNER 5000D/ 6000D: System Software Version 74.02 & BootROM Version 23.40 & later
            imageRUNNER 5000i: System Software Version 44.02 & BootROM Version 23.40 & later
            imageRUNNER 5020/ 5020i/ 6020/ 6020i: System Software Version 54.03 & BootROM Version 24.42 & later
Without these System Software & BootROM upgrades, a symptom of E740 will occur. When replacing an
old style Ethernet Board PCB on copiers with the new type ethernet Board PCB, please be sure to upgrade
the System Software, and Boot-ROM to the above version levels or later respectively.
You will NOT have the ability to enter the IP Address and E740 code will occur if the System Software & Boot-ROM are not upgraded to at least the specified versions above.
            ‘CAUTION!’
You will NOT have the ability to enter the IP Address and E740 code will occur if the
System Software & Boot-ROM are not upgraded to at least the specified versions above.

a model number would be helpful, but here is some info that might assist you:

                      Ethernet Board PCB (NIC):
Original Style - part number FG6-5964-000

I try to change the Flashrom from other machine and upgrade it to ver 23.44

is the broken flashrom can cause E740?
