There was a fix found at alpha dealer solutions that is now out of business. This fix (a metal plate) that fixes both bins on the base at the same time is still produced by omegaprofix.com

Re: canon cassette broken guide gear bins on base
canon ir2270s 3570s 4570s and ir3225 ir3235 ir3245 and many other ir models including many irc's all use the same cassette base to hold the many different sizes of paper by adjusting the side guides in the cassette. Prblem is the pins(plastic) on the cassette base that the gears ride that help operate this system break off, letting the paper shift where ever it wants, cuasing qc problems and jams. True solution is a metal plate that attaches to the bottom of the cassette threaded to receive 2 scews to mont the gears back on. It is found at omegaprofix.com and can been viewed there. It works on both the large and small cassettes.Comment

Re: canon cassette broken guide gear bins on base
Unless you are just trying to drum up business - the Canon solution ends up being less than a penny. No idea what the plate you are selling costs, but I suspect it is more than a cent. Long long long time ago I was in a school where we learned never to let the best solution become the enemy of good enough. Have never had to visit a machine a 2nd time for another broken guide using the post method.
To each their own though.Comment

we don't play around with any fixes for those cassettes , time is money in the big city-
95% of the time that post is broken by customer not loading the paper correctly in tray-
they drop a whole ream of paper and force the slide over/ either when replacing same size or worse > switching LTR to Legal or LTR-R/
Machine paper load Instructions seem to fall on deaf ears
Customer PAYS for all damaged cassettes > no if ands or buts**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment

Re: canon cassette broken guide gear bins on base
It happens when a ream of paper is loaded and the cassette tray is pushed in repeatedly. If you think about it you have the weight of a ream of paper being shoved against the rear side guide then suddenly stopped. It's no wonder the flimsy Canon gear post breaks. I just set the guides to the required position and use a strong glue (Araldite) to fix the toothed rails in place for good. If you charge your customers for Canon's poor design you won't have many customers left soon.Comment

Take two of these and call me in the morning...
These little adhesive plastic shims fit behind the rear paper guide and permanently set the rear guide in the LETTER position. 95% of the broken guides are in LETTER drawers. the quickest fix around. Just place between the rear wall of the cassette and the steel portion of the guide..."Once a King, always a King, but once a Knight is enough!"

Cassette Body Gear Post Breaking
The following procedure is an alternative fix for the paper width guide gear posts breaking. If you should have this issue, follow the procedure below.
You must remove the following (4) screws from the cassette body. The 4th screw is in the upper left of the picture (not shown) and will need to be removed when you slide the side guides all the way into the center.

Remove the right side silver metal guide
pic2.jpg
Remove the plastic lift tray so you can get to the gears
pic3.jpg
Lift up the silver lift plate

This is a view of what the hole should look like in order to insert the new gear post.
Note:Before inserting the post make sure to clean up the area around the hole otherwise the gear may not sit flush.

This is an Aluminum Binding Post (3/16 x 1/4) and the nut Side that is circled should slide in from the bottom of the cassette.

Before inserting the rear on the new post, make sure that the arrows on both the Front and Rear Rack are properly aligned (the following pictures shows the proper alignment before sliding the gear on) once the gear is on you can then insert the Screw Side of the post.

When installing the gear, make sure the 2 dots on the gear align with the arrows on the guides.

Adjust Rear Side Guide before tightening the screws. Insert the Rear Side Guide and re-attach the four screws fully to the rear side guide, but do not tighten them. Set the Front Side Guide in the LTR position. Insert about 10 sheets of LTR paper in the tray and move the Rear Side Guide firmly against the paper and tighten screws. Carefully remove the stack of paper and tighten the 4 screws.**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**Comment
