    Canon iR2200 Network Setup

    Hi,

Firstly I have little to no experience with photocopiers.

I'm having trouble setting up our new iR2200 on our network.

When I plug a working CAT5 cable (straight) into the RJ45 port the machine still says Check Network Settings. I have set the settings so that the machine should join our network. (We run a 192.168.1.xxx range and a subnet of 255.255.255.0, gateway is 192.168.1.1). I have also enable DHCP (although I have tried this on and off and still no joy). I can't ping any addresses from the iR2200 and I can't ping the iR2200.

Here is a link to my USER'S DATA LIST(Network)

A couple more things, when the cable is plugged in, a green and an orange light come on (network port) and stay on. I thought the orange would flicker for activity.

The cable goes from the machine to a 16 port non managed swtich, which is linked to our router. Our router gives out 50 DHCP addresses, 192.168.1.150-192.168.1.200. With an unlimited lease time.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Craig

It looks like you may have a defective NIC on your machine. I believe they're intergrated into the Main Controller on that machine. You'll have to check, but that's what it sounds like.

    Good Luck

      Thanks for your reply Copier_Guy.

That is exactly what I was thinking, but I just wanted to check that my config was sound.

I have rang the engineer out so let's see what he says.

I've seen it occasionally when you can still ping OK, but prints error out, prints intermittently, or not at all. If you have a NIC card reset that may help. Otherwise replace the NIC.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Everyone has their own way I guess, but here is what I do:

          1. Turn off DHCP. I like to use static addresses for printers to reduce "issues"

          2. Turn on SMB

          3. I like to configure DNS

          4. After making all the settings - need to do a power cycle before changes will be applied (make sure network cable is connected).

          5. After it is back up, I ping it from one of the network workstations. If that works, use the latest PCL driver and let it search for the printer.

Not sure why (firewall/security), but on some networks ping will work one-way but not the other. Try using the ping within cmd.

Here is a basic network troubleshooting guide. I hope it helps.

I like the guide, nice! Just to add a comment, not that i always want to, but when i am in question i hook up my laptop with a crossover cable, change my ip address to say whatever your copier ip is say 192.168.1.100 you make your computer 192.168.1.99. then restart the copier and then go to the command prompt and ping the copier. Or open up your browser and rui into it. You might have to reload system software. i had that problem before. you can of course have the copier ping itself, but the laptop method works for me. We have to know if its the copier or the customers equipment, so we diagnose that way.
Basically all you need is the ip address and the subnet address to check it.
the reason why your copier says check the network setting is because it doesn't detect the cable making a connection with another piece of equipment say for instance your laptop. Question, is the bootrom and the system software the "networked version"?

Hi guys thanks for your help, however the solution was so simple.

When it says do a power cycle, I was pressing the on/off button. After a simple flick of the actual power switch, everything started to work. I think the network cable has to be in before the machine is turned on by the main power.

I can see the printer using the Remote UI now

I have been reading the manual you posted, but it appears certain steps are missing. For instance, in My Network Places, I don't know what I'm supposed to click on to find Properties. If it's my Actiontec Router, then that's fine, but then I don't get an option to highlight Internet Protocol.

Thanks in advance if you can help me.
