If you want to send documents to email or server, then you need the send kit. But if you've got some kind of program where you want the images to be scanned, then the solution is the Network scangear (or color network scangear if your 3045 supports color scanning; I don't remember is the device capable for that). The send kit costs money, but the scangear extension is completely free. It can be found at the Canon's website.

If I remember correct, the scanner is only capable for B/W reading if the lamp is green when you lift the ADF. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

With Network scangear is only B/W scaning available for this model.
