Is there are "range" that I should set the adjustment to or just by trial and error?

it is trial and error because you have no idea if it was ever adjusted before you bought it. There could also be something else causing the paper the to skew on the duplex pages and if that is the case the adjustment will not be able to compensate for that.

          *******
to add/ make sure your paper tray for 11x17 , that the slide adjustment gear is not broken/ will cause paper to shift in tray / & develop a slant on pic-up

          take out cassette >remove paper>
and turn tray upside down>shake it>
          see if anything falls out

ok..I failed to mention earlier, that even using the manual feed tray it's still does the same slant then the rest prints straight it only happens at the begining of printing.

is this on single or double sided prints?

If on double sided which side is slanted?

Both, i tried to print as a single sheet and duplexed..on the First page it does this and when it duplexes does the same only on one side.

                      Houston we have a problem!!!!

I'm with Teckat on checking the ITB rails and possibly the ITB frame. Have you stopped the machine during the copy sequence to see if the paper is skewing or if the image on the paper is skewing? Just open the door as and 11x17 sheet is going through right before it touches the fixing unit and slowly open things up to see how things look. Is the paper straight, is the image on the ITB all skewed things of that nature. I would also look at the guide that sits right in front of the fixing unit to make sure it is not cracked or loose. This is where you toner transfers to the paper and if it is off you could get some issues like you are fighting.

to add------check that secondary transfer roller --make sure it is sitting correct on front side & backside/
with a slight press on roller ends -it should bounce back easy

this is the secondary transfer assembly parts breakdown image. It is the sponge roller right next to the fuser assembly when you open the left tray.

item 9 is the smoked plastic guide that lifts up on the fuser door and is right by the sencondary transfer roller. It can crack and cause all kinds of screwy feed issues.
