Imagerunner 2200-Replaced drum but now printing with dots and smudges

Hi, new here. We have a Canon Imagerunner 2200 which recently began printing with vertical lines on the pages. I did a little research and figured it must be the drum as there were about 60k copies since it was changed last. I am fairly technically competent so I felt comfortable ordering a new drum and installing it, which I did. However, now I am having issues with smudging and black dots/lines on the pages. Some pages will come out clean and some will look terrible.

Did I somehow screw up putting the drum in? What else can I clean? It's not the glass as it happens when copying or printing... it's definitely internal.

I don't want to screw up this printer any further but would like to try to resolve the problem before calling a copier repair place.

Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

It's probly something to do with the fuser. But to take off the door to access the fuser there is a connector you can really screw up if you do not know it is there. This is if you didn't smudge the drum when installing it.

Attached is a pdf file with two test pages that I printed. The first page is a blank sheet that I printed. I printed a total of 4 blank pages (only attached one). The first looked crappy, the others looked ok. The second page is a test page with printing on it. Again, I printed several pages and the first looked bad, the rest looked progressively cleaner.

I was VERY careful when installing the drum, but it's possible that something contaminated in as it slid into place?

It seems as though the printing is worst when the printer hasn't printed/copied for some time, then the first few jobs are dirty and then get progressively better. I can't show the worst of it because the jobs I printed this morning are not ones I can post.

            1. Yes, I just looked back at some printing from the week or so before I replaced the drum. The dots/marks were there on some of the pages. At the time I was more concerned with the vertical lines and I guess figured it was all part of the same problem.

            2. Yes, it was a genuine Canon drum unit, ordered from Staples.

            3. I did perform DPC in service mode.

            Thanks!!

Looks like it is the fixing unit causing yours spots/marks, most probally the cleaning roller, these get clogged with toner & need replacing, this is cheap & easy to replace, only one screw.

Open the left main door, you'll see a small yellow plate, undo the screw & remove it, then use a small flat screwdiver to pop the cleaning roller holder off, you need to use some force as it is clipped in place,in fact run a few prints with this cleaning roller unit off the machine this will tell you if it is causing the dots/marks

              The part number is FG6-5709
It sounds like you really know what you are doing so I'll jump in.

It is easier if you remove the main left door to access the cleaner roller. On the left where the cable supports the door is one screw holding a black cover. Take out the screw and remove the cover.

STOP! Do not take off the cable. Visually find the connector at the bottom of the door, Support the door, drop the cable and open the door by hand until you can unplug the connector. If you drop the cable and the door falls it will pull the connector and all the pins will point>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 45 degrease. A mess.
