you would need a good HDD to clone and the one in your machine has issues.

        Hi CHARM 5496

I'M TRYING TO USE CROSS CABLE ON MY ir 3320i. IS THIS ALSO THE REASON WHY ITS NOT SEEING THE MACHINE MODEL ALTHOUGH I COULD PING THE IP ADDRESS OF THE MACHINE (172.16.1.100)? WHATS THE PART NO. OF PARALLEL CABLE OR CANON USB TO PARALLEL CABLE?

you can use any old parallel cable the IEE 1284 compliant type.
The USB to parallel cable from Canon is FY9-4368-000

if you do a search on here you will find a thread with that information in it. I have never had to clone an HDD for the Canon copiers so you will have to rely on the information that is there.

Not every boot failure is associated with HDD failure. The boot sequence is a systems procedure involving the systems controller PCB, the boot ROM, main memory as well as the hdd. none of which works in isolation. You are therefore better of if u can solicit the service of an experienced canon tech to make a proper diagnosis of the fault based on the symptoms at hand. Furthermore, using the sst to download the firmware is itself not a tea party for an armature. you may end causing much serious problems in the machine than displayed by the boot failure symptom.

If I am not mistaken u can get a HDD that already has been formatted and the software loaded on it.This should work OK. It's been awhile but I do believe I have done this.
