    ir c5185 adf jam

    Hello

I have a strange problem with a ir5185c canon. When I turn it on if one of the trays is set to 11x17 it picks that tray no matter what size I put on the glass. Also when I place a sheet of paper in the feeder it says to lift the feeder and remove paper if it is left on the glass and that there is a jam. The only way to clear it is to reboot the machine. When I check the jam history it shows a jam but does not show a sensor or code.

Any thoughts? I have tried replaceing the paper size sensor under the lens cover and swapped the adf with one from a working machine.

    Thanks
    Joe

    Re: ir c5185 adf jam

I just checked the jam and see there is a code 94. When I press the jam the next page has just dashes.

Make sure that in Service Mode Level 2 under COPIER > OPTION > BODY > SENS-CNF is set to 1
to get in Level 2---while in Level 1/ hit the (*) additional function key then #2 key

On the Reader Controller PCB, there are two Original Size Detection Sensor connectors (J207 and J208). J207 houses the AB-configuration and J208 has the inch-configuration.
In service mode, SENS-CNF gives you the option to select either the AB-configuration (0) or the inch-configuration (1).
If this key is set to a 0, it will not read the length of the paper since the machine does not come with the AB Original Size Detection Sensor installed. Therefore make sure SENS-CNF is set to 1.

A 0094 Jam code is caused by any of the feeder sensor being blocked, when the print button is pressed.
First clean all of the sensors and initialize the sensors in Service Mode > FEEDER > FUNCTION > SENS-INIT.

If jam still occurs check the sensors in Service Mode > I/O.

      Service Mode > COPIER > I/O > FEEDER.
Check the following sensors to see which one is in a High state. Replace the sensor that indicates paper is present.

      SENSOR PORT BIT READING
      PI1 0001 1 1: paper present
      PI1 0004 5 1: paper present
      PI5 0005 2 0: paper present
      PI11 0006 5 1: paper present
      PI12 0001 3 1: paper present
      PI12 0006 3 1: paper present
      PCB2 0004 5 1: paper present
      0007 11111111: no paper
      PCB3 0001 0 0: paper present
      0008 11111111: no paper
      PCB4 0001 2 0: paper present
      0009 11111111: no paper
Part number for PCB 2,3, and 4 is FM2-1022-000
Part number for PI 1,5,11,and 12 is WG8-5593-000
PI 7,8,9, and 10 are for size detection only

Below is a diagram of where the sensors are located

DADF-T1 Jam Code 0094 Displayed on the imageRUNNER C5185 Series

0094 jam code is immediately displayed when you have an original on the Document Feeder and you press the START key. In this article, it refers to the DADF-T1 which resides with the Duplex Color Reader commonly on the C5185 / C5185i.

        --------------------------------
After cleaning all sensors inside the DADF, and performing both the Sensor Initialization (SENS-INT) via service mode and also the Tray Width Adjustment on the DADF --and the error code still occurs.

Before you determine that an ADF Controller or Reader Controller PCB are to be replaced, check all your jam sensors and their operation.
The sensors within this DADF use reflective sensors thus they need to reflect off a plastic mirror above or below them.

First check I/O mode in service mode for their operation to see which sensor still shows paper present. Then, check above or below the sensor in question to see if the reflective plastic lens is present.

In this particular case, PCB4 (delivery / reversing sensor PCB) in I/O mode, address P001 Bit 2 (DADF-T1), showed that there was paper present. This sensor is located under the Delivery Upper Guide (FL2-5987-000) as shown in the figure below. The reflective mirror attached to the underside of the Delivery Upper Guide was missing thus causing the machine to indicate paper present. It did not display on the copier's LCD to remove paper prior to operation but when the user would put an original on the Document Feeder Original Tray and press the START key, the machine immediately displayed the 0094 jam code. This plastic reflective mirror is only available when ordering the Delivery Upper Guide with the part number FL2-5987-000.
The picture shown below displays the plastic mirror attached underneath the Delivery Upper Guide and I used a mirror to display it

          problem on glass:

after you press reset, does the display say auto or is it always showing the 11x17 casette
someone could have locked default mode to a specific cassette.
          do mmi clear
or put casette select to auto and program as default (standard settings, i think it is called).

          adf problem

          clean prism of sensors
          feeder > function > sensor-init
          do width adjustments
          do ccd> wlvl1 and 2

Thanks for all the help. The adf control board took care of the jam and it looks like the machine was defaulted to 11x17

remember that there adjustments needed put back in when u replace a DF PCB

Procedure of Replacing the DF Controller PCB

In the service mode, input the correcting values described on the service label
found at the backside of the front cover on printer

                Hello

All of a sudden I have a new issue with this machine that I think might be related. The machine is having a c732-0001 code. I also notice that when going into service mode only the copier icon is there, normally I believe there are other icons including feeder. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

                Thanks again

If the reader unit is unplugged with the power on or printer stilled plugged in wall E732 (reader communication error), you will find that the code cannot be cleared in service mode or by shutting the machine off, then on.

To clear the error code, enter service mode COPIER>OPTION>BODY>W/SCNR and set it to "0" and shut the machine off, then on.
The setting will then automatically change to '1' upon detection of the presence of a scanner (printer model).

E732 0001 refers to the Reader Unit. There are remote signals that the Main Controller PCB uses to determine the Readers presence. If that signal is missing, then 13V will not be supplied to the Reader Unit and hence E732 error.

                  1) Confirm that the Reader is properly connected to the main engine.
                  2) Check connector J1035 pin1 on the Main Controller PCB which is RMT-CONT-1. RMT-CONT-1 is the remote signal that tells the Main Controller the Reader and DADF are present. If the signal is missing, 13V is not being supplied to the Reader Controller and hence E732 0001.

Checked Molex connection (J2M) at the rear of the machine.
Removed rear cover, inspected connections and reseated J2M. If the rear cover is not installed correctly it can prevent the proper seating of J2M. This connector is located on the right rear side of the machine and provides power and communication to the Reader Unit.

lucky for me i did not have to get my manual because of this post
yesterday after having a weird issue i did a RCON clear.
input the values from from reader panel, and got the same jam 94 not clearing.
found that sens-cnf and model-size was also cleared.

feeder started working after sensor init
