    Canon iR 5185 Fuser Replacement

We are being shipped a fuser unit that will be replacing a malfunctioning unit. The tech, who cannot be in the area to help, said that it was a matter of unscrewing some screws and it was an easy replacement. Is this the case or is it more complicated than that? Does anyone have a walk through or guide for something like this? I appreciate your time.

Re: Canon iR 5185 Fuser Replacement

if you are just getting the fuser unit you will have to swap the fixing drive unit from the old one to the new one. The unit is held in by 4 screws and the drive unit is held on by a screw and a clip. I'm sure some one has a a PDF or something to help you out visually with the procedure, but it really isn't that difficult to do.

I have a used fixing drive for sale. Doesnt have the metal clip around the connector but other than that its fine. Kinda superficial.

So much fun to do, sometimes raise blood pressure with those connectors.

Just wanted everyone to know that the switch was successful. I was able to change out parts without issue, mostly due to the great pictures and descriptions. I appreciate it.

                        IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DID U PERFORM THIS BELOW IN SERVICE MODE ??????

                        after install of new unit--------------------------

Execute the operation of HP search of the fixing belt and the pressure belt
                        a. COPIER > FUNCTION > FIXING > FIX-UHP-S > OK
                        b. COPIER > FUNCTION > FIXING > FIX-LHP-S > OK

Clear the fixing delivery print counter
                        c. COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > FIX-BLT-U > CLEAR
                        d. COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > FIX-BLT-L > CLEAR

Points to Note When Replacing the Fixing Unit
In the case of executing HP search operation of the fixing belt and the pressure belt, the alarm code is closed, and the total rotating time of the fixing assembly is cleared.
Thus, make sure to execute this mode when replacing the fixing unit otherwise it may cause the following symptoms:
-The alarm code is not closed
06-0002: fixing unit life alarm (occurs by belt displacement)
06-0004: fixing unit life alarm (occurs by torque-up)
-The message is displayed for the machine misidentify that the total rotating time reaches the message threshold value although it does not.
                        ------------------------------------------------------
Do not execute this mode other than when installing or when replacing the fixing unit. There may be no error indication although the fixing unit comes to the end of its life.

I did neither of those things. However, I will be to that office on friday, at which time I'll run both of those. Thank you for the heads up!

may be too late to run the fix hp function, u should have no problem in a new unit,
but u need to clear that counter
