    iRC3220 network printing

Having problem in networking the newly acquired iRC3220N for months. I've read all related FAQ to Canon MFP here but couldn't find the solution.
My company got a used iR3320N worked fine for all copy, network print/scan and fax in-out. We several months ago acquired an used iRC3220N plus a C1 Printer Controller box (Model X3e-01 came separately) from an importer of used canon MFP.

It has been worked fine for copy/manual fax and just have time to try test printing through network. I found that it doesn't work at all. I couldn't set IP to Printer contrller C1 box. I firstly (was told and) believed that the C1 box has been worked well with some iRC before. Secondly the C1 was plugged in to iRC3220N and can complete the start up process (DIAG LED 0123 turn red then LED 0 goes off 123 still red then 1&2 goes off with 0 goes red = 0&3 go red for a while and finally all off only PWR LEED still green)

The funny thing is the C1 can detect LAN connection & realize the 100 Mbit signal (2 green LEDs lit up). I can't set up IP address and panel shown 'check network connection' even I plug in LAN cable C1 box at the back of machine. C1 box has a cable to hook its video port with UFR port at the side of main unit) . By using IP scan utility, I could see any IP from C1 box but see all other IP from router, iR3320 and other PC in network.

Only if I move LAN cable to plug the UTP port located close to UFR port (manual said this is fix IP port for SW download with fixed IP) I can ping this port with limited IP address (ex. 192.168.1.21 or 192.168.1.13) . Can I use SST tool to check installed system software through this UTP port?

To assume the C1 box may have bad UTP chip I managed to test with another C1 box with the same result. I can read out that the first C1 box has different S/N embed in SW. May this the problem of incompatible version between main system SW and printer SW version? If so, why the C1 box couldn't be set up IP address or the C1 box must be realized or communicated with main unit prior to be able to communicate to external world???.

I managed to load SST tool version 4.52 Ec and installed to a dedicated PIII laptop. After complete the install process it doesn't have any model list in the SST tool for me to choose for connection button. I want to use this tool to see which software version was installed in the main unit and in the C1 box. I've tried to install it twice (uninstall successfully) to get same result.

Anyone can kindly help to pin point what's happen to the SST 4.52Ec made it missing the machine model in drop down menu to choose for connection. If my SST is not the complete one please PM me where to get the right version.

I also really need suggestion how to check & verify the compatibility of system software and printer SW in C1 box. If I have to flash the correct firmware version please kindly advise where and how to get it.

If possible I'd like to have SW list both in the main unit (system Software) and printer software to ensure the compatibility with correct ROM version the support installed SW. Any suggestions to help me solve this issue are appreciated and very welcome.

    Re: iRC3220 network printing

First thing is > Print out a P PRINT > it shows all the settings

    to use a imagePass C1 FIERY on a 3220 - the 3220 needs the "C" Boot rom installed , you posted that your 3220 is a 3220N-
the 3220N has the "N" Boot Rom from the Multi-PDL Kit installed/ & it's UFR Interface pcb installed

the I/F pcb from either one can only be used at one time> because they share the same slot on 3220 printer-

    Boot ROM:
To utilize a given printing kit, the proper Boot ROM MUST be used.
The Color Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A1/or A2 requires, and comes with, an N-type Boot ROM.

    The imagePASS-C1 requires a C-type Boot ROM โ€“

the same Boot ROM type that is used by a copier-only model.
Additional Boards Installed with Printing Kits:
The Color Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A1/A2 comes with an UFR Board (Ultra Fast Rendering Board) that
needs to be installed in the Color imageRUNNER C3200/3220.
This board is installed in the slot on the Main Controller underneath the Ethernet PCB.

The imagePASS-C1 requires that an Open Interface Board be installed in the Color imageRUNNER C3200.
This PCB is included with the imagePASS-C1 and is also installed in the slot on the Main Controller underneath the Ethernet PCB.

Since both printing kits require a different PCB be installed in the same slot of the Main Controller, the
printing kits are mutually exclusive โ€“ only one can be installed at a time.

    To ADD>>>UNDER-

    COPIER>OPTION>INT-FACE>IMG-CONT
Is Used to set connection to PS print server unit.

0: Normal mode (no PS print server unit)
    for "N" Boot Rom
3: PS print server unit= for "C" Boot Rom

when set item is selected/power off/on printer

    for C1 Fiery Network setup-
At the Control Panel, press [Printer]tab.
    Press [Printer Status/Settings].
    Input of password--Fiery.1
In response, the machine will automatically show the
    Settings menu-
make the appropriate settings in the indicated order:
[Server Setup], [Network Setup], and [Printer
    Setup].

for a Multi-PDL Kit Network setup
    on Control Panel, press
    Additional Functions
    System Settings
    Network Settings

    -----------------------------------------------------
When registering firmware for the iRC3220 there is no distinction between N or C version in the Service Support Tool. When you flash the C3220 simply select 'BOOT' and begin the flash process, the Service

Support Tool is intuitive and will select the proper version automatically.

      Re: iRC3220 network printing

First of all I'd say 'thanks a lot' for your kind response.

From your info. seems that I got wrong 'Boot ROM' or wrong Print kit (Fiery C1 V2.0) instead of The Color Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A1/or A2. Anyway, please find 3 attached files here which I printed out from inside the 'Printer tab' under Test Print ----> Configuration, PS FONT List, PDL FONT List, PS Color test page & Color print chart.

Information from Service Mode Level 1 ---> 'Display' ----> 'VERSION' are as follow:-
      DC-CON 38.02
      R-CON 04.01
      PANEL 00.02
      ECO 41.08
      FEEDER 04.01
      Sorter --.--
      FAX PSTN-NLD - 56-01
      NIB 04.00
      PS/PCL
      --.--
      LIPS
      --.--
      SDL-STCH
      --.--
      OP-CON 03.01
      MN-CONT 86.01
      BOOT-ROM 70.01N

      DIAG-DVC --.--
      RUI 79.04
      LANG-EN 86.01
      |
      --.--
      | --.--
      \|/ --.--
      MEAP 86.01

One thing to let you know is
      'when I do select ---> COPIER>OPTION>INT-FACE>IMG-CONT =3. After re-boot I press 'Additional Functions' ----> 'System Settings' ----> 'Network Settings' I only got 2 choices under 'networking settings' = 1. TCP I/P Settings 2. E-Mail / I-Fax
      Under TCP I/P
I got only 2 choices:- 1. SNTP Settings to be On/Off 2. Use PAS Mode for FTPV (On/Off).
The Other choices used to see (under IMG-CON = 1 all gone.

      Questions :-
      1. Can I re-write Boot ROM from N type to C type? If so, how to get the file to be re load Boot ROM.
      2. To only replace ROM from N top C type and using Fiery C1, the final cost should cheaper than to order The color Network PDL printer kit A1/A2, correct?
      3. Please don't forget to answer my questions regarding SST 4.52 Ec, Does the downloaded file has missing some info so there is no 'iR / iRC model for me to choose to connect to. Please advise how to correct it so I can use it to upgrade /verify Software inside C1.

      Thanks in advance,

        Re: iRC3220 network printing

        Take it slow------

        Print out shows=====
you have a N Boot installed in the printer/ that means u have a Multi-PDL Kit UFR Interface pcb installed.

remove the C1 FIERY BOX connected on back of printer
next>> go in service mode -COPIER>OPTION>INT-FACE>IMG-CONT
        highlight>select
0: Normal mode (no PS print server unit)
when 0 item is selected> hit OK on bottom of screen>/then power off/on the printer

now try to go onto Control Panel, & press
Additional Functions key * & follow below screens>to re-enter Network settings-
        System Settings
        Network Settings

        1.- u can not re-write the BOOT ROM from a N to C
2.- to use the C Boot Rom> it requires the C1 Interface Pcb / C Boot can be purchased
        FG3-3130-000> it's no good if u also don't have the C1
        Interface Pcb installed
3.- SST > for the SST to function for flashing it needs a Models Firmware registered in it.

the 3220 Model Firmware > when registered in SST will not display a selection for 3220 N or C when updating or re-loading 3220 Firmware.
When you flash the C3220 simply select 'BOOT' and begin the flash process, the Service Support Tool is intuitive and will select the proper version automatically.

you can take off the back of the printer to view what boards are installed
be careful of fan wire(see below)

Service support tool is used for upgrading Canon photocopiers. You need the copier firmware registered in SST for this to work. You have to user a crossover cable to connect from a computer to the photocopier and the copier has to be in download mode.

The FieryC1 is made by EFI Systems and software upgrades being released by them and filtering through to Canon tech sites. The Fiery is upgraded using Fiery Downloader.

Some of these boxes can be flaky and a software upgrade done for the sake of it may cause you a few hours grief getting it to work again.

Please advise how to access P Print as your posted "Print out a P PRINT > it shows all the settings"

I'm now on truing to get BootROM C version which I feel that it's easiest to test & verify if it can enable C1 to communicate with outside world (LAN).

FYI with current BootROM N :-
When I change IMG-CNT to 0 (normal mode) I lost printer tab after start up complete but I get back all choices under System Settings ---> network settings which I'm still unable to set IP address setting to function (I can set but it doesn't response to Ping test)

When I change IMG-CNT to 3 (PS print server) I get back the Printer Tab which I can print out the C1 config, PS Font test, PCL Font test, Pantone Solid Color test chart. I also get the scanner tab but I lost buttons under Network Settings (System Settings ----> Network Settings). I assumed that The N BoothROM doesn't provide Network resources for C1 to communicate with outside world.

I'll update you once I get the BootROM C to test.

            Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your information about C1. I jsut wonder if I can do C1 software upgrading to latest version to get all enhancement, if any. If to doing so will bring me to troubles again, I'll let it there if there is no issue for printing function from network.

Regarding the SST, please correct me if my understanding was wrong.
I must have Copier's firmware registered in SST to make it work
. So the SST will come up with model for my choice to be connected, right?

To which folder do I have to register the firmware? If I manage to back up firmware from a known copier and save to SST. Can I use the saved firmware as model to flash to other copier (if they are same H/W model and features)

                Hi, bestguy

Based on your 3 attached files, everything should be OK. The firmware for C1 is Version 2.1.2 is latest for this RIP. Your iRC3220 firmware, though not latest but it stable to support Fiery C1.

If you are able to print all the 4 pages from the copier's LCD, it indicate your setup of host machine (iRC3220) and the RIP (Fiery C1) is good.

It been a while since last touch this model, but could you confirm the LAN cable (MUST be cross-over type) from host machine to RIP is at the correct port (look closely on RIP, should be a printer kind logo engrave on metal surface of RIP. The other LAN port on RIP is where the network will link.

I might be wrong but your RIP's IP Address / Subnet Mask / Gateway IP does not seems to tally. You might want to consider doing "Stand-alone" testing using a laptop (static IP) to this copier's LAN.

Don't worry too much on C BootROM and N BootROM, Fiery C1 will still work with either one. It just that a wasted resource to put an N BottROM in it. Our lab used it this way without any major issues.

                  Thanks for your helps.

As my previous threads, I can get printer tab when IMG-CNT has been set to 3. All the 3 attached files were manually printed out from copier by control through iRC3220's 'Control panel'. This also confirm that cables connection from C1 to copier should correct (using cross over LAN cable & Video FH2-7042 cable). If I connect with LAN straight cable the copier will not talk to C1 and will show 'check network interface connection' on panel.

When I try set IMG-CNT to 0 the Printer Tab gone. That's I lost C1 from Copier, right?

Under IMG-CNT = 3, I got printer tab and all C1 printer capability (Scanner button, Scan to mail button....etc) but I lost capability under System Settings ---->Network Setting-------> only 2 buttons left (SNTP & FTP or so button) No IP address Settings, Netware Address Settings, Appletalk Setting....so on.

I was told that BootROM N will work with 'UFP printer kit' (This is what the vendor try to sell to me). My colleague has checked with his friend (working in Canon copier business but mot dealer guy) He confirmed that the working iRC3220 with C1 box (this belong to his customer) has BootROM C. This is the only different between these 2 machine we learnt.

I'd hope that we should be able to network this C1 box with N BootROM as you posted. Could you please kindly show me if you have iRC3220 with C1 box & N BootROM. So we can learn how it be set/config.

                  Thanks again,

Absolute agree with you. I'm even unable to connect C1 to network. I'll try to get C BootROM.

Could you please verify part ID FG3-3130-000 you posted previously? I search this ID to found that it isn't clearly define as C BoothROM for iRC2300.

                        Hi, Bestguy

Sorry for giving a piece of unsound advise of N BootROM workable with Fiery C1.

Back on your issue at hand, have you test the "Stand-alone" method with just linking it to a laptop only?

Sorry for late response. I just back from business trip.

I did test stand-alone online with laptop (through cross cable). THe laptop show "limited connection" with IP 169.254.20.154. I can ping the ethernet port successfully. This is to prof that the RJ45 port is good, right? The application level is not communi9cate due to 'incorrect BootROM type, may be?

Could you please advise how to get iRC3220C firmware to download to change the BootROM from existing type N to be type C.?

As attached file here was cut only firmware download section from iRC3200 Service Manual. If my understanding wasn't wrong, I should be able to 'only download' BootROM content (firmware file) to Flash machine BootROM to be C type???

Please PM me. Thanks in advance.

                              Hi, Bestguy

There is no way you can change BootROM from N to C or vice-visa.

Based on this thread #3, you had attached a printed Configuration page:

                              untitled.jpg

You stand-alone test seems to have miss out fixing your laptop's IP address to static. That why it show "limited connection" with IP 169.254.20.154 Try fix a static IP (e.g. 10.17.100.110) for laptop as your Fiery's 10.17.100.109

Actually, the Fiery's specified Gateway IP (10.17.0.1) looks a bit odd. You might want to verify that information. If there isn't any need for it, fixed it as 127.0.0.1

Basically, you have 2 issues network connectivity AND BootROM. Solved the first one first to confirm that you able to print. Next, tackle replacement of BootROM N to C as advise by Teckat to avoid getting any spooling issue.
