    IRC1028i Dropping off network.

    Any ideas?

I was asked to look at IRC1028i today whilst at another machine.

It drops off the network completely at random times/ random durations. No print / ping / RUI etc. Only a reboot will cure.

Another engineer had visited a few days ago for the same thing and performed an all clear.

The customer has physically moved the machine a little to use another network point / cabling. This also means it goes through a slightly different network / switch path than before. Same result.

The software has been updated to WLA5202 ( was v50 on arrival ) and I have increased the sleep time and power consumption to high.

    Any other ideas?

It rare beast, this iRC1028 but let give it shot in the dark:

      - try fixing the speed from Autp Detect to, said 100 Mbps FULL Duplex

      - is it possible to re- assign a new IP address?

      - is it allow to have a 5-port network switch bewteen copier's LAN and link it to your customer's network?

        Thanks for the reply.

Yes, its a rare beast for me too. But of course this customer has 2 and has no issues with the other one.

Should have said the customer tried changing the NIC speed themselves. None of the options made any difference. They are reluctant to try anything else that involves them moving unfortunately.

Yes, my next steps will probably be sticking a small switch / hub in and requesting an IP change.

I have broached the subject of swapping their 2 machines round, but this would take 10 minutes and some mouse clicks , so might be beyond the realms.

With my limited knowledge of these machines, I was just wondering if I was missing something known with them.

        Thanks again for the reply.

          Re: IRC1028i Dropping off network.

I had a similar problem with a CLC3200, i found that the issue was that something else was using the same IP address.

Turn the photocopier off and ping the IP, if it shows up you have an IP conflict and your problem should be solved with a simple IP change.

Also, im not sure how you change it on this machine but on 2880's if "DCHP" or "DHCP" (i forget which) is turned on, turning it off will solve the problem.
Have you tried turning it off and on? No...Oh, it works now!

            Thanks for the reply JamesU

I am waiting on them phoning me back to see if flashing the machine and changing the sleep / power settings had any difference. The machine is about 1.5hrs away, so a little difficult to just "pop" in as normal and see how things are going.

This is a college we are talking about, so ANYTHING is possible

Ah, could be an IP Conflict then if there are a lot of connections...

I'm not saying its the fault, i haven't been in the business as long as some of the people on here. But i think giving any problems i have may help you out possibly.

Fully agree with jamesu, you need to get Customer IT in as support/ discussion. In a collage, you will always have some smart-ass student setting their IP to static of our printer. We term this as rogue device gaining unauthorised network access. Tread carefully, some IT might not like the idea that implied they are lazing around in their work hours.

                  Thanks for the input

I'm sure they are not lazing around, but its the old issue of proving its not the "copier". And with that model, I was a little unsure what it could be with the machine itself. Not had a telephone call yet about it dropping off, so we will see.
