    Canon IR 6000 Grinding noise

Loud, gear grinding noise during initial warm up. Once warmed up it goes away till I make copies. Same grinding noise returns when making copies. Getting Very light or No image. Noise comes from back center of machine near the toner/corona section.

I suspect something at the toner/corona station. Could it be the Servo motor? I see that the corona wire section is a floating system. Could that be out of position?

    Thanks for your attention.

Sounds like the developer roller not turning to me. Check the clutch on the rear panel and the toothed belt that drives it.

If im not wrong your problem is exactly the same with the link below, Try to install the toner inside service mode, If the sound come out then try to change the developer clutch at rear of machine. Make sure the waste toner bottle is empty

You also need to clean up every gears and bushing at developer unit. When u try to turn the cylinder and it get hard to turn then it must be a toner become solid around the bushings. Otherwise u will get an almost blank copy or a black thick line copy

I now have the corona/fuser unit on the bench.
              Here are my observations:
The corona cleaners are half way down the track, not in the home position. I don't see how to turn the worm screw manually to get it back to home position. The waste toner bottle was Full, I emptied it. The white mylar flap under the corona unit was above where it should be. I pushed it back down into position.

Will reasemble and see what happens.

I just put it back together.
                Now getting CODE E000004 0000
Anyone know what that code means?
                Thanks,

The SSR has a short circuit. The DC controller PCB is faulty. The error must be reset in service mode (COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR)

Re: Canon IR 6000 Grinding noise

I Turn Main power switch Off then turn back On. Same Error code E000004 0000 message appears.

I don't know how to get past code error message to try and clear in the service mode.

Can someone tell me the procedure to get past error code message and access srevice mode?

                      Thank You.

Re: Canon IR 6000 Grinding noise

I just paid an independent copier tech $138 to tell me I probably cooked a pc or power board by removing and replacing the image transfer station with out shutting off the main power.
That reminds me... when I pushed the image transfer station back in it popped the main power switch at the bottom left near the back of the machine. I had to switch it on and off twice before it would go to the error code. Could that have done the damage?
Technician was able to get into the maintenance screen and make some adjustments like bring the corona cleaners back to home position but aparently the machine still goes back to E000004 0000 code. That's how it sits now. He says I should just buy a new machine but I can't afford that. I still got 8 months of payments left. I ain't giving up yet. Any further suggestions before I abandon this work horse?
                        Thank you,
                        Dana

Thanks to you guys I was able to get into the maintenance screen myself and reset E000004 code.
Turns out error code was caused because the two heater lamps had fallen out of position. I repositioned the lamps, and was able to clear code.

Now, back to my Original problem...
Copier makes Loud grinding noise when making copies. Image goes from faint at the lead edge to non existant.
I suspect something is mis-aligned between the spring loaded, floating corona area and the toner hopper.
Any suggestions on the grinding noise? I've checked visually but can't see anything.
                          Thank you,
                          Dana

I haven't tried any of the developer unit solutions.
Can't figure out how to remove it for inspection.
I removed the toner hopper to get access but couldn't see what screws to remove to pull out the developer section. I'm stuck.
