1 check to see if the dev is seized #2 check the bearings on the shaft in the dupexer it will make a washing machine noise that sounds like its coming from the rear center of the copier its the shaft with the foam rollers on the right hand side of the duplexer hope this helps.

      open right door
      remove screw holding the strap
now look for a plate held by 1 screw.
      remove screw.
slide plate towards front of machine . plate should come out.
that black thing in the cavity is the dev.
remove connector and take dev out.

I came onto work today (Sunday) to try again to fix machine without interuption.
Was able to find and remove developer unit thanks to your help.
It was vey hard to turn the gears and the lower beater bar was binding.
I cleaned up the gears and it's no longer binding and turns pretty freely.
I put it back together, powered machine back up and watched with the right side panel above the power swich removed.
The small toothed belt just behind & above what looks like a transformer is Very loose and the electric motor and white gears it drives are running slow with stops and starts.
Now I'm getting a New error code E000824.
Anyone know what this code means?
Did I put something together wrong?
        Thank you,
        Dana

          E824
Main Cause The wiring is faulty (short circuit, open circuit). The primary charging assembly
cooling fan (FM2) is faulty. The DC controller PCB is faulty.
          Mode of
          Detection
0000 While the primary charging assembly cooling fan is being driven,
the clock signal (FM2CLK) does not arrive for 5 secs or more.

            CANCELL that last order!
            Hey everybody, I fixed everything.
Last error code E000824 was tripped because I forgot to plug the main cooling fan back in after re-installing.

So just to clearify my original problem of grinding noise...
YOU folks were right on the money.
The developer hopper gears and toner mixer bars were binding.
            That's all it was.
All other problems were caused by me because of lack of knowledge.

I have learned several valuable lessons from this experience.
My local Independant, "professional" tech wasn't that knowledgable on this machine as you were.
and with help from You I was able to learn to do it myself and find many other things about my machine along the way.

Thank you ALL for your invaluable knowledge.
            Greatfully yours,
            Dana Lewis
