    [Misc] remote diagnostics

I am in charge of 62 canon machines (8 different models) all spread out on the same network.

Is it possible to set up some sort of automatic ... remote notification system that notifies me of the meter reads or copy counts? My computer is on the same network.

Or is this something that i am just going to physically have to do once a month via communication with the machines key operators and the RUI?

    imageWARE Remote
    ----------------------------------
'imageWARE Remote' is a service that collects the page counter, service part counter, alarm, jam, and error code data from Canon devices with the embedded Remote Diagnostic System (eRDS).
The eRDS, built into recent eRDS enabled Canon imageRUNNER devices, enables a device to transmit counter and error code data to a Universal Gateway (UGW) database. The Dealership can retrieve the data from the UGW via a web portal. This data can be used to enhance the billing work flow or service work flow of a Canon authorized reseller.
    SEE PDF>>>>>>>>>>>>>iW_Remote_SSGl.pdf

    eRDS provides the following benefits:

    Automatic Meter Reading
eRDS captures and provides meter data automatically via the network to the UGW, reducing the need for manual collection of meter readings by the customer and reporting them to the dealer for billing purpose.

    Enhanced Service Offering
Automatic Error, Jam, and Alarm Notification can be used to improve dealer's response time.

Usage Statistics, Parts Lifetime and Consumables Management
As part of the imageWARE Remote Services Monitor feature, providers have access to information on parts usage of their customers' registered imageRUNNER devices. This can be used offer preemptive service to the customer, before consumable and durable parts reach the end of their expected life cycle. In addition, information about toner usage allows the service provider to make suggestion about re-ordering or stock quantities.

    imageWARE Remote offers these options:

    1. imageWARE Remote Meter Reading - This system communicates the counter information to the UGW database for review by the dealership.

    2. imageWARE Remote Service Monitor - This system includes the same service as imageWARE Remote Meter Reading with the addition of transmitting device alarm, jam, and error codes for review by the dealership.

imageRUNNER and imagePRESS devices that were released after November 2008 have e-RDS support.

For imageRUNNER and imagePRESS devices released before November 2008, please use the following list to determine e-RDS support.

    * These imageRUNNER models are also supported with an imagePASS controller connected.

1 The imageRUNNER devices require the PCL Printer Kit M1 to support the e-RDS function required for iW Remote.

2 The imageRUNNER 2016/2016i/2020/2020i models must have system software version 60.02 or higher installed to support imageWARE Remote.

3 The imageRUNNER 30 Series models must have a Printer Kit and 256 MB of RAM installed to support imageWARE Remote.

The supported imageRUNNER models have the e-RDS (embedded RDS) technology available. e-RDS needs to be activated.

eRDS be activated on the Canon device in order to use imageWARE Remote----
    ------------------------------
The Network Settings in the Canon device must be properly configured with all of the following :

    - IP Address Settings (including the correct IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address settings).
    - DNS Server Settings.
    - Proxy Settings (if necessary).
    - SNTP Settings. (can use TIME.NIST.GOV). Some customers such as hospitals, state/local or government agencies may have their own SNTP time servers and may not permit the use of other third party SNTP servers, in those cases ask the IT dept for the correct SNTP server to use within their orginazation.

To activate eRDS (on most supported models):

    1. Enter Service Mode (press Additional Functions, 2 and 8 simultaneously, then Additional Functions).
    2. Select Copier > Function > Install.
    3. Set eRDS to 1, then press OK.

          Hi, Gang,

Anyone ever try to enable (or disable) eRDS remotely, without having to be in front of the machine in service mode?

I'm thinking there may be a web page (not unlike the MEAP interface), but I've yet to find it. Could it be in iWEMC? The documentation on iWEMC isn't the greatest.

          Thanks!

Nope. you need to be in front of the machine to go into service mode, function> install > e-rds has to be set for 1 and then yo
u have to do the com-test AFTER the serial number of the system has been input into ugwportal.

What's CUSA charging per machine? Canada's charging 2 bucks a month per serial number. But well worth it. This system saves me so many unecessary calls.

              Thanks for the reply.

              Sadly, that's what I thought.

One question though. There is a web page on each machine, namely http://<IP Address>:8000/rds that I can't seem to get into, I always get a 404 error, regardless of the login credentials used.

I have found no documentation on this anywhere.

              Any clue?

(Sorry, no idea on what Uncle Canon is charging...)

              Thanks again.

If you on the same network you can use Remote Operation Kit.You can do anything without having to be in front of the machine.
